Brazilian Wax--thoughts?

I am dying since the hot weather has arrived here and, living in a beach town, I can't see past my belly to keep myself nice and tidy down there. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and go full Brazilian. My bff is also pg right now, and is due the week before me. She was saying she was planning on getting one at the beginning of Sept so she was ready for delivery and was tidy for postpartum. Anyone have experience getting one while pregnant? TIA!

Re: Brazilian Wax--thoughts?

  • I've gotten these every 4 weeks since my BFP in January... they don't hurt any more while pregnant, if anything I would say they hurt less. No big deal...

No ways! My normal bikini wax was SO much more sore after getting pregnant, no ways I'm going for a brazilian, which I found super-sore anyway. Husband + clippers for me.

  • I had one about a week ago and I REALLY REALLY regret it.

I should say I've had them many times.

It was way more painful than normal, took way longer to heal, and I still feel uncomfortable 24/7. I almost posted about it here it's been so bad. I am so chaffed no mater what I do.

Maybe some people were fine but I most certainly will NOT be doing that again while pregnant.

  • When I'm not pg I normally will take a couple of Advil before I go get a Brazilian.  I had one Brazilian while pg without taking anything and it was waaaaaayyy more painful but I'm not sure if that's because I'm pg or because I couldn't take Advil...

I have an appointment for one on Wednesday and I'm planning on taking a couple Tylenol before hand.  I'll let you know how it goes, but I'm expecting it to be a bit more painful.

    Good luck, whatever you decide!

  • Love that this is what elicits my first post on the board!

I have gotten a Brazilian once a month for the past few years.  Yes, it's a little more painful while pregnant, especially since I used to be able to take a couple of advil 20 minutes before.  But it's really not that bad.  Healing time is the same, I'll continue getting them throughout my pregnancy.

  • I get one regularly and did while I was pregnant w/DD as well and yes, it felt more painful but not too bad UNTIL right at the end of pregnancy. Last time around, my aesthetician convinced me to wax *everything* for the delivery so that it was clean down there and I didn't experience pain w/post delivery dry blood getting stuck to nether regions, etc... Well, it was by far the worst fukking thing I'd experienced in my life when she ripped the hairs off my actual vag. I'm normally not a big cusser but I yelled out obscenities because the pain was that intense. So, moral of the story, no need to go that intense w/your waxing before delivery (a simple clean up of legs and bikini area would be my max this time around) because if you think it's sensitive now, wait until you have gallons of blood flowing through your nether regions toward the last couple of months. Ay vey!

  • I've never had a wax of any sort so I can't speak to how painful one might be while pregnant vs not pregnant. I can, however, tell you that you will most likely be extra sensitive down there and possibly a little swollen. My bump is still fairly small, but I already have big bulgy veins down below from the pressure. It's not pretty. If you read "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy, I think she refers to this particular phenomenon as blue twinkies or something like that. It's graphic but pretty accurate.

  • I get them every 6 weeks and have continued to do so during pregnancy.  The first couple were worse than usual but since then they are not bad.  If you have never had one, be prepared that it will hurt but its not horrible and you should take a tylenol before you go.

ALL of this. I will continue to get a FULL brazilian up until delivery, it's worth the pain. The first time does hurt the worst, though. Just take two tylenol about 1/2 hour before hand, you will  be fine.

  • out of curiosity- how much do they cost around the country?

    they're about $65- $75 here (before tip)...I had a credit for one.

  • I'm on the Jersey Shore and am a spa member (pay $55/monthly and get either one 60 minute massage or $60 minute facial). The non member price at the spa is $55 and the member price is $45. However, the manager is making an exception since I'm about 6 months pregnant and said that she would just let me use my monthly package for the wax since it's for good reason (I can't see! haha).

  • GET IT!!  i love them..got them before pregnant and continue to get them while pregnant. I guess i am the exception, i have never thought they were that painful...so it doesn't bother me.

If anything, take a tylenol beforehand....

I am in Orlando area...and i pay $35-45 before tip..depends if they have a special going to returning customers.

    GOOD LUCK!!

Disagree. It was horrible. Pre pregnancy.

This above - I agree.  I've actually had to go less than every 4-5 weeks since BFP in January but now that I have limited visibility down there as well - I can't really shave in between - so I'm back on the 4 week time frame.  Mine have hurt less as well... I've had about 3 done since my BFP and going again soon.  Advice would be: take two Tylenol, don't have any caffeine prior to going and go in the morning.  This seems to help me at least.  I'd rather be clean down there than what we're going to to go through in 4-5 months.  Big Smile

  • PS.  A difference between an awful experience and perfectly fine experience may be how often you go or have gone pre-pregnancy?  I only add this because I see that you mention someone else you know is going in September pre-delivery but don't mention she's gone any other time during being pregnant?  I might be having perfectly fine experiences versus others because I've been going every 4-5 weeks for the past 3 years...

  • I had one done last week.  I get them done sporadically, usually every 3-4 months or so. Never frequently enough to get to the "hey this doesn't hurt as much" stage.  This was my first in almost 8 months, so of course all of the hair had grown back in so it was pretty much like I had never been waxed down there before.

In general, it seemed slightly more painful than I remember before. However, I had a really horrible waxer this time around and she actually ripped open the skin between my labia with a bad pull.  Her reaction was: "Oh, gosh, you're bleeding, umm, I usually keep some Neosporin in my purse for when this happens, I guess I should have trimmed that area first..."

WTF?!?!?! What the hell is wrong with you crazy lady?!?! That is NOT normal!!!!!!

So, I had an exceptionally painful experience (and I told her not to dare put any more wax on that area afterwards; I was completely done with the whole "Brazilian" part of the wax and just had her finish the bikini area), but I don't know if the overall pain level was because of the pregnancy or because of an incompetent waxer or both.  Even before the bad pull it had seemed more painful than I remember.  I didn't take any medication beforehand, but I didn't in previous experiences either.

My recommendation? Get a bikini wax, but leave a strip in the front (the most sensitive part) and just stay away from the inner regions. Not worth it, but waxing the bikini area for swimsuit season is still probably worth it.

  • Ok just got back from one....

I had one like 8 years ago, worst experience EVER, I was so sore and bruised for days, I never did it again.  Now that its getting hard to see and all I figured I would give it another try, I went somewhere else and it did hurt but not nearly as much as the last time and I dont feel sore/bruised after this time.  The lady doing it actually said some people will do too big an area to 'save' on supplies and that can make for a bad experience.  I rebooked for 5 weeks, I figure the next time should be less painfull.... hairgrowth should be thinner since Im not shaving.

So in the end Im very glad I did it....oh and 2 tylenol were taken 30min prior.

I would agree with this. I got one done for the first time last week since being pregnant, and I thought it hurt less.
