Belly button ring...

Ok so I had one when I was 16 and took it out when I was 20 so its been out for almost 7 years. This weekend I noticed the area where I used to have it is red and kind tender, anyone else who had one that long ago getting this.

I am going to watch it and if it gets worse call the doc I don't want it to get infected I was just a little confused since its been out for so long!

Re: Belly button ring...

  • The same thing is happening to me, almost. It's very red, but it's not very tender. It might end up getting to that point though. I got it done when I was 16, and took it out when I was 20, and it's been out 6 years now.

  • I had mine pierced when I was 16 as well...and took it out about 4 years ago...the skin around where I was pierced is red but not tender...(my belly button hasnt "popped" yet either so I'm not sure if this makes a difference) but I have been taking a q-tip and just cleaning my belly button with rubbing alcohol or peroxide just because I'm paranoid about it getting dirty since there is still a hole there...I would just make sure you are keeping it clean (which I'm sure you are)...hopefully the tenderness is just from the stretching of the skin...

  • glad to see I am not the only one. I am not sure its tender from the belly ring, I think its from the stretching, but I am just going to keep an eye on it.

  • I had mine done when I was 18 and took it out about a year later, and I'm 35 now so it has been closed up for a long while. The area is purplish, like a scar, but not tender. I am really hoping the purplish hue goes away after birth and my skin shrinks back down because the holes were so small before I got pregnant that they were barely noticeable. My doctor has never mentioned anything about it at my appointments and I get a doppler & fundal height measurement each time, so she sees it.
  • Mine did this a few weeks ago, and I haven't had a ring in for a couple of years now. I freaked out thinking it was infected. From what I could gather talking to another friend, it's the scar tissue getting aggitated b/c our bellies are growing at such a rapid and unusual pace and stretching it. I put some neosporin on it every morning and night for a few days and it helped out greatly. My friend said she had used witch hazel on hers, so you may want to try that if the neosporin doesn't work. I used neosporin b/c I had it on hand. Hope this helps!

  • Mine's a little pink where my ring used to be (took it out 2 years ago when I found out I was preg with DD). I have 2 older tiny stretchmarks coming from it from being preg the 1st time so my skin is probably just trying to stretch out old scar tissue. It's a little tender sometimes.
