August 2012 Moms

The beach *Edit, PIP*

imageWe went to the beach yesterday. I've never been too keen on going to the beach before. I always assumed it was messy, hot, and the water wouldn't be welcoming since I dislike open water. My dad wanted to make a family day at the beach yesterday, so I got pumped about spending the day with family at the beach. I packed appropriately, as I knew we'd be gone the whole day. We had a huge cooler, chairs, snacks, water, beer for SO and lunch. I didn't know if DS would love it or not. He loved it so much he skipped his nap! He did pass out at 4 for a half hour, but he actually was a pretty good boy (minus the two major tantrums). We had a blast! Since the beach is only a couple blocks away, SO and I agreed that we need to make it more regular to go down there this summer.

I think the worst part of the day was that I couldn't just run after my toddler when he was chasing after the seagulls and play. I have been in so much pain with my lower back lately. Walking has become a feat, sometimes. And running is out of the question. I want a healthy baby who is full term, but I can't wait until Adeline is here. I can't wait to be back to my normal self and be in better shape (we plan to get a YMCA membership and have WAY healthier lifestyles once my 6 week post pardom check up is complete.) I hurt so bad, it's hard to not cry at times. Today I almost fell because my back hurt so bad when I was putting my pants on. I may take a trip down to my old job and have my physical therapist friends adjust me.

I feel like a horrible mom, today. DS is playing quietly by himself and I can't do anything but sit on the couch. If I stand, it hurts sooooooooooooooo bad.  Anyone else have this issue? It's not sciatica, from what I've read...just my ligaments and muscles loosening. I had the same issue while pregnant with DS. I went to a physical therapist and he adjusted me, gave me some stretches and I felt better. I'm going to try those. I've been doing a heating pad, but it's just not cutting it as I don't want to be sitting on it all day.

I don't have any advice for you as I'm experiencing the same lower back pain, but I am right there with you on the need for a healthy lifestyle once this baby is done cooking.  I'm a little ashamed that I got pregnant at my highest weight in five years (I had lost 80 pounds and little by little it creeped back on over the past three years) and there are days where I just feel awful.  I'm eating well now, and going for walks/swimming once a day, but I just want to feel better... and I want this little guy to be healthy too.  *hugs*

You just gave me an idea...

What do you think of having an August 2012 Healthy Lifestyle Challenge, somehow? After the babies, of course.

  • Sounds like fun!  I love the beach so much.

I'm having horrible lower back pain as well.  And feeling some major pressure on my hips.  It's a chore to walk.  It usually takes me a few minutes to get out of bed in the morning because I feel so stiff and sore :( It hurts to sit for too long, but it hurts to stand for too long, and I can't get comfortable laying down either.  I get so frustrated sometimes I cry :/

I think with the lower back/hip pain, I might need a firmer mattress.  Right now, we are sleeping on DH's old mattress with a foam topper.  My old mattress is firmer, but it's in the guest room as DH hates it.  Quite honestly, if we don't move that mattress in our room, I'm moving into the guest room.  I slept on it the other night and it felt good to have all my various parts supported.
we have a twin size daybed in our office, and i sleep there more often than not anymore.  Its firmer, and having a corner to prop up into feels really nice on heartburn nights.  its much harder to prop up as well in our regular bed, and the smaller matress is more firm and feels better on my back.  Nothing wrong with sleeping apart from time to time if it means you both get a better night sleep.
