Is it too late for a carrier?

I did not think I needed one, but now I feel like I'd want one for walks and such. However, being out of work, I cannot spend a lot and it seems like the better ones are more money (of course). Olivia is 13lbs and 25 inches - is she too big at this point for a carrier?  Does it make sense to get anything now since I may not be using it for long?  Which one do you recommend, if not too late?

  • I don't think it's too late.  I really like our Ergo and it is rated for up to 45 lbs., so we have a ways to go with it!

Definitely not too late!   I use mine way more now than when DS was a newborn.  Check Craigslist.  I got a $100 mei tai for $20 on Craigslist and I love it.  It is the carrier I use almost every day.

Ditto this! Sophie loves being worn now, but hated it a month or do ago. I have a mei tai and love it. Is there a local baby wearing group near you? They should be helpful in your decision. They might even have some loaner carriers you can try out before buying.

  • no way. i still use a babyhawk, moby, and seven sling with dd4.

  • I have the Infantino Flip. Eli hated it until he had the control to look around it in so I don't think it's too late!

  • I have a baby bjorn that is rated to 30 or 45 lbs. Check thrift stores. I got mine there for $3. Pricey model for very little.

  • Definitely not too late. We use an Ergo. Looooove it and now E does too. It took her a while to get comfy in it but we have it figured out now. www.abbyslane.com has a trial program on carriers. Try one for 30 days and you can return it if ou don't like it. They also sell used ones too. Might take some of the risk out of a pricey purchase.
