Really bad back and gas pains?

Is anyone else getting these? I've been up since 3:30 with horrible back and gas pains. I've gone potty (No. 2) three times already. My back was hurting so bad I wanted to cry. I took a shower for about a half hour and that seemed to help, but my stomach is still hurting and I am burping like crazy. Advice? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: Really bad back and gas pains?

  • I went to a GI doc recently for some similar issues.  He suggested laying on my back with my hips way elevated...obviously for only a couple of minutes at a time.  You could use pillows, he suggested thick books, but I've found that a yoga block or two works best for me?  HTH!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am so worried about laying on my back. I try to stay only on my left, but sometimes that seems to make it worse. I already sleep with a Snoggle (deflated) and a Boppy wedge.

  • Like I said, I only do it for a few minutes, 5 tops.  We do something similar in my prenatal yoga class (um embarrassing when you have uncontrolable gas,) but apparently, because of the angle of your body and the short duration, it is totally safe.

  • I don't have the back pain yet, but man the gas is bad.  I have no advice though.  I plan to talk with my Dr. about it at my appt next week.

It is funny because I feel like the gas is what is making my back hurt.  It is like everything gets all tightened up in there and it travels up my back.

Definitely try this. This has helped me as well (except I didn't use blocks/pillows...I just laid on my back for a few minutes in a yoga pose). Also, I haven't tried it, but I've read that peppermint tea is supposed to relieve gas pains. As for the back pain, I've had it but not as bad as yours. Getting down on all fours helped relieve it for me. GL!
