Babies: 9 - 12 Months

when is it ok to switch to whole milk over formula?

DS gets Enfamil Next Step bottles now, but with all this recall stuff Im really eager to get him off of formula. Im going to call his pedi on monday to ask a few questions about this, but I was wondering when it is ok to switch him to whole milk in bottles or a sippy?

He has had whole milk yogurt and things like that so I know he has no milk allergies and he also eats 3 meals a day of combination baby and regular foods. So, I know he will be getting his nutrition elsewhere if I stop the formula. Has anyone done this or know when it is ok to do so? TIA!

  • Our pedi said that at 11 months we can start to wean him.

So the first week, 1/4 of the bottle will be milk and 3/4 will be formula.  The second week is is half and half.  The third week it is 3/4 milk and 1/4 formula.  The 4th week is all milk.

  • Our pedi told us that we could start giving DD a few oz of whole milk with her meals just to see how she does. We started giving her 2 oz this week, and so far she has done great. We will gradually start giving her a little more at a time.

  • 1 year - you can start to wean slowly around 11 months if you need to.
  • Also, we only give milk in a sippy. We were told to do only formula in bottles.

  • My Dr told me yesterday that we could start  anytime really.  DD is on the slight side, so they are wanting to add some fat!
  • my pedi said by one year they should be done with all puree foods and starting to wean to normal cow's milk. We haven't started her on cow's milk yet, but she gets yogurt, cheese and other milk products daily.
