Mommy trick to get dirt from under LOs fingernails?

Seriously- DS looks like he was playing in dirt! And, I can't get the dirt out from under his fingernails- his little fingers are so tiny and the fingernails aren't long- it's just jammed up in a tiny line under the nail bed. I tried to get the dirt during bath time, tried when dry too- with a soft baby tooth brush...any mommy tricks out there that work????

  • I always just use my own fingernail to scrape it out.

  • When I give him a bath it washes off. :)
  • with my babes, if their nails are long enough to house dirt, they are too long!  i cut them a lot.

edie is at the point now where she just lets me.  it's awesome.

  • I trim them, then use a soft toothbrush!

I made up a "chomp chomp" song and now Adele lets me do hers too!  Toes are more difficult though.

Good trick!  Edie is just getting used to toes.  I guess since it happens less often, it's harder for them to get used to.

I'm pretty vigilant about cutting his nails so he doesn't scratch himself-if I go any lower, I'll end up cutting DS- but I do think I need a better nail clipper than the ones I got in a set as a shower gift....do you have a particular brand? thanks :)

I use an earring post.  It isn't sharp, it is small enough, and I can clean it before and after.

Score! This worked perfect on the couple of stubborn to get finger nails, thanxxxx!!

  • OK, Ladies- so, I'm looking online for new clippers....question: do you use nail clippers or scissors? or both?

I have tiny baby nail clippers that work great.

  • We use little cuticle scissors because they are curved and small.

  • I asked the dr the other day and he said after clipping them as short as I can - that I can use a wet Qtip and it should help to get the stuff out from under there...

but seriously... where is this dirt coming from?  He constantly looks like he was gardening! lol

  • I'm really not raising a dirty wildebeest as some people may think by telling me to cut his nails- we are actually quite high maintenance people LOL

He is a freak with his hands and scratches along anything and everything- himself, me, DH, fabrics, etc-l- a regular ol' crime scene with everyone's skin cells under there LOL

Luckily with a good extra soaking, I got it all out :)
