My DD seams to be having bad dreams or something.
Every night and only at Night , I noticed that when I feed her she starts to breath fast and heavy and kind of whimpers and cry's a bit, she'll jump like shes scared and crunch up her face. She will wake up around 5:30-6 am doing this and has a hard time fully falling back asleep. I cant imagine she's having nightmares EVERY night. I know she has been having a little bit of separation anxiety but not too bad and like I said this only happens at night. She normally wakes up fine but on occasion she will wake up screaming. I know there is nothing I can really do about this but is it normal? Anyone's LO doing this?
Re: Night terrors anyone?
DD seems to have something similar. She will go to sleep just fine, but have a little trouble getting comfortable. Then about two hours into her night time sleep she will wake up inconsolable. We will go through the checklist. She normally needs a diaper change, but she is not hungry and just wants to snuggle. I am wondering if it is an extension of separation anxiety etc.
I just wish we knew what was going on in their little heads. Poor babies.
My first thought was a diaper, just because you said it's every night. If J wakes up around 4, he has a harder time going to back to sleep, and I think it's because he's soggy.
Also, night terrors do happen. My pedi recommended soothing without picking them up, because it can disorient them and make them more scared. Talk softly, rub their head, back, legs, where ever, etc.
You could always mention it to your pedi at your next wellness visit.
We sleep trained at 6 mo and DD was doing great for about 2 months. Lately she has been waking up and screaming bloody murder at least once in the night when she used to STTN. She doesn't like being rocked to sleep so I know that wouldn't help even if I wanted to rock her back to sleep. Last night after about 10 minutes I went in and rubbed her back and then stood by her crib. She was so tired and wanted to go back to sleep but she kept checking to make sure I was still there. Normally she's very independent and couldn't care less when I'm around. Very weird stage we're going through!
Those don't sound like night terrors to me and night terrors generally start around 4 years, although she could be having nightmares
I have night terrors sadly and while they involve screaming in sheer terror, they also involve jumping out of bed and flailing about. I realize babies can't jump out of bed, but with kids they tend to bolt up right in bed and scream and try to punch and hit things.
this, I'll notice that when i pick her up when she is having a nightmare ( or i think) it scares her more because i startle her. I try to just pat her back or just stand by her crib and talk smoothly to her.
