I was a jerk...

I was a jerk today, but at least I can admit it.

I ordered a dress on the 11th of May. On Tuesday June 6th I was more than I little upset I still haven?t received my dress. I called while at work only get a voicemail saying someone will all me back in 24hrs and to leave my name, order number, and number to reach me at. Wednesday afternoon  came and I didn?t get a phone call but I got an email saying that my order was shipped. I was more than a little confused by this because every time I checked my order status online it said completed.  Yes I was an ass and assumed that if my order was being listed as completed that it had been shipped.

Needless to say this upset me. So I sent the company and email letting them know that I was unhappy with how long it has taken them to ship my order and that the website mislead me into think that it had been shipped when in fact it hadn?t. I also went on to say something about how they really should call customers back, and that I was unhappy not to get a phone call back.

I was shocked at how fast I got a reply to my email saying that all formal wear is made to order.( I don?t know about you, but when I think of made to order I really do think of something that is tailored to my sizing needs and not a generic manufacturers size.) That I should have stated in the websites comments section when I needed the order by. (Because of how the website is set up it really looked like they had everything in stock at a warehouse ready to ship again I made an ass of myself for thinking this) The person then went on to tell me that the phone systems were down and that not all calls were logged.

After reading this email I really felt like I was being lied to. Really when someone says something is made to order I really do think that it is custom to that person. This dress was in no way custom to me nor did the website have a place to put in any measurements. I also said that after being lied to about the dress being  ?made to order? I had a hard time believing that the phones were down.

I got an not so nice email back, understandable I said the person lied. Well it turns out that the dresses aren?t really ?made to order? that when they say ?made to order? once they get your order they will place and order with the manufacturer. Nowhere on the website do they state this. If they just explained to me that they don?t have a warehouse and that they order everything from a manufacturer once and order is placed I really would have been fine and said thank you and not sent an email saying I was lied too.

Yes I was a jerk today, but at least I can admit to it and say I?m sorry and that?s better than most right?Embarrassed

Just to be clear nowhere on the website to they say that anything is "made to order"

Re: I was a jerk...

  • the whole thing sounds kind of shady to me- most companies will tell you a ship date when you order, at least an estimate (like you choose standard shipping, expedited shipping, etc.). It sounds more like you are ordering a piece of furniture than a dress!

Sorry you had to deal with that. Personally I would have reacted the same way. If they said they were going to call you and the systems ended up going down, the least they could have done was send you an email stating that and not waited for you to contact them. Pretty sure my business with them would be done after customer service like that...

  • I am just hoping the dress I order shows up today or tomorrow and fits!

I really don't want to have to deal with returning it.

  • Honestly, it sounds like they were just being unprofessional and you expected more.  They apparently do something similar to a dropship, which is fine - but if it's going to take over a month for the order to get to you, that should be stated somewhere on the site.  I think what they meant by "made to order" is simply when you order it, then they turn around and have it shipped to them.  Either way, it doesn't sound like you were a jerk - just that you expected some professionalism.
