Hi Ladies, I am in a tough spot - our HR team is very unorganized, and I was told that I need to research the Short Term Disability and FMLA laws on my own. Does anyone have any advice on where to start?
Well, only THEY can tell you if you're provided STD there at work. If you're paying for it out of your paycheck it should show up on your pay stub under deductions/benefits. That's only if they charge for it, though. (Mine doesn't) State Short Term Disability Insurance is mandated in five states: California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. If your work doesn't provide it and you don't live in one of these states then you might SOL at this point, though I suggest posting on the Working Moms board for alternatives.
FMLA provides up to 12 weeks of UNPAID leave. FMLA only applies if you work for a company that has more than 50 employees AND those employees are all within 75 miles of each other.
ETA: You also have to have worked for the company for 12 mos. or 1250 hrs to be eligible for FMLA.
