I fainted at the Doc!

How embarrassing is that? I had my glucose screening this morning. The lab tech had to stick me three times and I fainted when I had to stand up. And I am not that squeamish about blood draws because I have to get it done so much for my pernicious anemia. I think it was worse because I could not sleep last night but still... I'm such a spaz!

Re: I fainted at the Doc!

  • I'm sorry that happened, but I can't think of a better place to pass out than at the Dr!

Awww!! That's not embarassing!   I'm sure it happens pretty frequently!    I would have stabbed the lab tech back after the 2nd try!

I'm used to getting it done at hematology where they literally stick 100 people a day. They spoiled me because they are sp precise every time.

  • I had mine last night and she got me on the first try and filled the 2 tubes and finished. Then she turned around and was like oops I forgot you are RH neg and need the antibody test, so then she had to stick my other arm!! By the end of the appt my BP was up!! I was not too happy but luckily needles don't bother me.

  • Ha! I needed a Xanax to get through my blood transfusion! It was aweful! And it took forever to find a vein because it has to be a thicker gauge. Simple blood tests rarely throw me though. Oh well. I was already dizzy from not eating  and that lovely drink.

  • Don't feel bad, they got to me right before I fainted during my ultrasound today and there was no needle involved.  They literally shoved me onto my side and I was able to stay with them.   It is a little frightening though especially since this happened yesterday at the check up as well.   I have been feeling off ever since.

Yes, I would be super spoiled too!  I'm the person who always asks for the butterfly needle and freezing cream (and is generally medicated going in for bloodwork as well).

I'm needle phobic... and sometimes I have moments in which I am trapped in a blind panic, and I almost black-out.    When my apendix ruptured, they were trying to put an IV in my hand and I panicked (worse than I've ever panicked before).    There were 2 nurses holding my legs, and my mother was holding my upper body down... I ended up biting my Mum so hard in the arm she bled, and I kicked one of the nurses right in the face... Now that... was truly embarassing....  I sent the nurse flowers afterwards, but I felt completely awufl.

You and I are the SAME!! I haven't kicked anyone, but without Emla cream an hour before blood draws I'm a wreck, I panic, I freak out, I cry, I flinch, I tense up. It's a bad scene. I still panic with the cream, but it's really not as bad with.

I had my GTT last night as well and I felt kinda loopy for a little bit, but the bottle says that nausea and fainting are side effects...so as much as you fainted I feel like they are on stand by for that.
