waaaa.....someone needs to hire my husband!

I have been applying him for jobs like crazy--its practically my night job! I apply for them @ night, he waits a couple days and follows up with a call. But the only interviews he's getting are for BS staffing companies (short term contractor jobs, not ones that want to place him with long term employment). No one wants to hire him... He was a printer for the local newspaper & he worked for the past 8 years. He's been laid off since mid-april. If no one hires him soon I may have to sell him to the circus! (not because he's driving me nuts doing nothing @ home-- because we're having a baby and I need the money! HA!)   I just really wish something good would come through for him soon, he's really been depressed about it lately.

ok, I'll stop crying now... thanks for listening ladies!   : /

  • I feel you. The only job DH could get after college (6 months after the fact) was washing dishes, and he's still doing that 3 years later. I finished grad school LAST May and I never found a job, so it's safe to say that I have given up. Fortunately for a couple months I am working remotely from home to help at the place I worked for while in college. My stepmom works there and needed some extra help. It's up in the air whether or not they will just want to keep me for any amount of time, which my stepmom is arguing for (since keeping me is much cheaper than hiring someone to work in the office), but I'm just hoping they keep me through at least the end of June.

DH is trying to get 1 if not 2 more part time jobs. He can't go to full time at work until someone drops to part time, which probably won't happen until September. As it is, if I weren't doing what I'm doing, we wouldn't be able to cover our expenses.

  • Yeah your not alone with being pregnant with twins I have been so sick and having complications since the beginning so I have been out of work .. and then to add to the stress my boyfriends job went from giving him more then 40 hours a week to he is lucky to get two days a week. He has been trying to apply for other jobs and do odd jobs to help. It just seems the good jobs are few and far between.  =(

  • Thanks for the support ladies! Its def hard. All along our plan was not to get pregnant till after he got another contract or job after this october (his contract was through october but the union opened it early and laid 22 peoeple off!) and we didnt want to be living on 1 salary with a baby on the way! Whoops!

I applied him for a 100% identical job to his last one BUT, we are in St.Louis & the job is in RICHMOND VIRGINIA!  YIKES!

When I did it, it was more of a joke because lately I've been bugging him about taking me back to VA--we vacationed there last september and loved it! But when i read the description he got so excited! He really loved his job--its too bad the newspaper is such a dieing trade. I could hardly fall asleep thinking "omg what did I just do, what if they want him"

  • I've been dealing with the same thing.  My DH was laid off 2 years ago during the worst part of the recession.  He was a news videographer but had very little skill in any other field.  I must have applied him for hundreds of jobs and nothing worked out.  Finally he decided to go back to school full-time and finish his degree so he's been doing that for a year and waiting tables at night and doing some freelance videography work on the side.  He doesn't make much but luckily I have 10 years of marketing experience and an MBA and a really good job with great benefits so we are still pretty comfortable even without him bringing in much money.

With a LO on the way, it will actually be helpful for him to have a flexible schedule and we can use the university daycare for half the price of normal daycare but I do still daydream about the day when we'll have 2 real incomes. That will be amazing!!!
