storing pump parts and bottles for baby #2

We are not yet TTC#2 but we're done with the pump (Medela Freestyle) and bottles for DD. I was going to sterilize everything, put it in ziploc baggies and put it in the closet until I need it all again for future DD/DS.

My question is, will the plastic pump parts/nipples/bottles still be good? They're all BPA free but I started to get worried about it and didn't know if I should plan on buying all new for #2 and tossing this stuff. It seems like a waste to toss it all, but just wanted to check what ya'll have done.

Thanks!

Re: storing pump parts and bottles for baby #2

  • I have the same pump. I am planning on saving the bottles (some of them, a few got lost when we moved in Jan) and getting new shields. I probably needed bigger shields anyway but I only BF for 6 weeks and never got around to getting bigger ones.

  • I sterilized everything and stored it in a similar fashion. When I was buying new parts while breastfeeding, I got an extra set that's still in the package. I'll plan on using it. I plan on buying new nipples but keeping the bottles.
  • I plan on buying new tubing, but reusing the parts. I pitched all the  nipples from the bottles, though, and plan to just buy new ones.
  • The parts that I will reuse (bottles, etc) are still sitting in my cabinet, only because I just finished pumping maybe like 2-3 months ago?  I am already pregnant again so I figured I may as well just leave them there, and then resterilize them before I use them again.  No sense in putting it all away now just to take it all back out in a few more months.
