heartbroken

My LO had such a long night last night.  She just learned to roll back to belly and now keeps rolling over in her sleep. She hates being on her belly and wakes up screaming and crying when she rolls on her belly.  She was up about every half hour last night and cried so much she sounds hoarse. I don't let her CIO so I flipped her back to her back everytime, but she just kept rolling over to her tummy and crying.  I stayed there and just pat her and at one point even wrapped my arms around her and put my head on her back to try and soothe her.  It was heartbreaking to hear her cry like this but i know if I hold her (like i sooo wanted to) all night it will be impossible to sleep myself.  Anyone's LO go through this and if so what did YOU do to help make them feel secure in this developmental transition? TIA

When my DD went through that stage, we rolled up two receiving blankets and put one on each side of her so she couidn't roll over at night.  It kept her on her back and we both got some sleep.

  • When DD went through this we started bed sharing. If she rolled over I would roll her back and peace for all. Soon she figured it out on her own.
  • She might benefit from The Magic Sleep Suit. We used this with our DD and it was a WONDERFUL tool to bridge the time between being swaddled and stationary, to being without blankets and moving around freely in the crib. It looks like a wearable comforter, but is actually pretty light weight. The "fluff" prevents baby from rolling over or sitting up.

  • We started swaddling again, and then when she started crawling we used the woombie. She was mad about it, but she slept way better. ;)

It's a phase and she'll figure it out soon enough. Took my girls about 2-3 days/nights. The worst thing you can do is keep turning her over. Let her practice during the day and show her how to do it.

This. DS lasted a week and then went back to normal.

  • we got a woombie and it has really helped. At first, he kept waking up because he would hit himself in the face with his hands, but if I roll him in a receiving blanket to keep his arms at his sides, and then put him in the woombie, he sleeps like a little angel!

This, but eventually she started rolling over the blankets...then it took her about 2-3 days before she figured out she liked sleeping on her tummy. That and she learned to roll tummy to back. So now she rolls to her tummy to sleep and rolls back over when she wakes up.
