Gowns or pants?

What were you most comfortable in after your c/s --- hospital gowns, your nightgowns, or pj/yoga pants?

Also, do they check your vagina as much as they check your incision? TIA!

Re: Gowns or pants?

  • I stayed in the gown for the first 48 hours or so. I was ready for pants after the first day, but was advised to stay in the gown a bit longer to minimize the chance that my incision would bleed onto the pants.

I think for the first day they pushed on my uterus to make sure it was contracting more often than they checked my incision.

  • I used my own nightgown and the hospital gown.  They checked my incision daily so I wouldn't have wanted to pull down pants each time.  They didn't check my vagina but rather checked what my bleeding looked like in my pad.

  • I wore yoga pants all 3 times as soon as I could. They don't really check your vagina, but they do check your incision..........

  • Agree with other ladies, but I wore a light cotton bathrobe the entire time (with nothing else except a nursing bra and the lovely hospital underwear). It was perfect-- suitable for visitors (it was cute and I was covered), easy to nurse LO in, and easy access for anything the nurses had to do.

  • Yoga pants! I wore the gown for the first night and then changed
  • I wore a nightgown with a matching robe with the hospital undies. They checked my incision frequently and then checked the bleeding amount on my pad but never checked my vagina.

FWIW I can't imagine wearing pants the first few days. I didn't wear pants for about a week and then they were ones I could pull up over my incision.

  • I wore the hospital gown the first day. After that, I had a nursing night gown with robe that I brought with me. I think I wore that Day 2. Then, I changed into maternity pj pants, which were my favorite. I wore those and maternity yoga pants for quite a while, even after getting home.

  • I was in the gown for about 12 hours.  As soon as the catheter was out (at 12 hours), I wanted to be back in normal clothes.  I wore pajama pants the whole time in the hospital.  They checked my incision and didn't check my vagina but did pull down my underwear to check bleeding on the pad.

  • I wore the hospital gown for the first 24 hours or so, until I took a shower. Then I wore maternity yoga pants over a belly band, with a pad over my incision to keep any blood off of the band. I like the pressure on my stomach - it makes it less painful to move and walk.

  • I was in my maternity yoga pants the day after my c/s. They came and checked bleeding more often than they checked my incision. In fact they only check my incision once or twice a day. I was only in the hospital for two nights and then I bailed out as I was sick of sitting in the hospital.
  • I changed into yoga pants basically as soon as I could move. The wide, fold down top was really comfortable, and not really a problem to move down for incision checks. Yoga pants, tank top, and light robe/sweater= my wardrobe for months =)

I didn't have a vaginal check at all in the hospital.

  • Wore their gown the first night, a maxi dress the second, and gauchos the 3rd.

  • I wore my own night gown with a light weight robe.  I didn't want ANYTHING touching my incision so the thought of pants was very scary to me in the beginning!

After about 24 hours, my yoga pants were my BFF. They only checked my lady bits about 2 times (if that?) within the first 12 hours and that was because they had to take the catheter out.

  • I brought a long gown, short gown, and my maternity yoga pants.

My favorite was definitely the long gown, due to the ease of being checked by the nurses.  I didn't want anything on the incision except the mesh panties, so the yoga pants were out, and the short gown was awkward when I had visitors.

  • I was in a hospital gown for the first 24 hours and then wore my yoga pants and a tank for the rest of my hospital stay.  Since then I've worn skirts with stretchy waistbands, yoga/lounge type of pants, and full panel maternity pants - all fit fine and don't bother my incision.

ETA: they didn't check my vag area at all other to remove the catheter.  However, I didn't push and never even went into active labor so literally zero action took place down there.

I did gowns. They have to check you a lot and you still bleed alot from your area. Plus I had catheter till next morning. Even after it was removed and I was moving around I had no desire to have pants on. The day I left I put some yoga pants on. I plan on packing gowns again for this one.

I stayed in my gown until I was ready to go home. It was summer when DD was born, so I wore a dress home.

  • Is it odd that I don't even own yoga pants? lol I prefer to stay in the hospital gowns during my stay. I bring a shirt to put over the gown so I feel more normal (and to keep my breasts from popping out with visitors!).

Going home, even with my CS, I wore my maternity jeans. Even though I had DD only 10 months ago I don't remember them checking my pads at all. They checked my incision a few times and asked me how many pads I was going through but I don't recall them actually looking.

  • They checked my site and lady bits more times than I could count! As for me I wore the gowns in the hospital and continued to wear dresses the first few weeks. It was easier for me and it let my site breathe.

  • I stayed in gowns until I knew I was getting released that day. My OB wouldn't allow me to get up until the day after my c/s, so I had the catheter in for nearly 24 hours. Since I had gotten sick after my c/s, I had to have the IV in a few more hours until they knew I could keep solids down. Since my incision was repeatedly checked and my uterus pressed on, it was easiest to keep the gown on until close to the end.

My vag was never checked in the hospital.
