How early after delivery to begin workout routine?

Ladies - Can anyone share thoughts on when you started working out again post delivery? I had uncomplicated vaginal delivery with minimal tearing.  I am 17 days post partum and feel good....been walking daily. I worked out lightly until the end of pregnancy and would like to start slow with elliptical.  Too soon to try?

  • I started running lightly at around 2-3 weeks, I would think the elliptical would be a great place to start.

  • I'm 4 weeks pp and have been on a few runs. As long as you feel good, go for it. :)

  • I started slow on the elliptical after 2 weeks or so. Just go slow and expect some discomfort down there the first few times.

This!  Didn't they give you directions when you were discharged?

I was on bed rest for 6 weeks afterward...so when I got off I got back to it. I did weight training, elliptical and zumba...just watch for loose bladder.  I found that that was a problem.

  • Everyone is different (obviously). I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery and I went for my first run (one very slow mile) at exactly 2 weeks PP. By about 4 weeks PP I was back to my normal 3-5 mile runs, but much slower. The best thing to do is listen to your body, start very slow, and stop immediately if anything hurts or you start bleeding. Trying to do too much too soon can backfire, then you'll end up having to wait even LONGER. Good luck!

  • i had a c/s with no complications and went on my first run at 3wks PP. i was about to lose my sh!t, came downstairs and announced i was going for a run. my doctor and i had discussed it beforehand and they said as long as i felt ok and went slow, i could do it even though i technically wasn't cleared until 4wks PP.
