Has anyone used one of these? Is there anyone who might be willing to sell their old one to me? We want to start using one to help with timing since we have to travel to our donor, but they're super expensive new.

Re: Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor?
We used it (successfully), but it's actually highly recommended NOT to transfer it to another person. The monitor stores your personal cycle information, and it's my understanding that you can't re-set it no matter how long its been (unless you've done research I haven't seen that somehow says you can).
The previous person's cycle will really screw up your monitoring--I know because on the very first day my wife used it (really honey, the FIRST day?)...she forgot and peed after she got up without using it. The entire cycle was off...and the next month it was all confused, too.
In the end, the monitor never fully caught up to her, in part because of that one mistake (it thought she was peak all the freakin' time because she started so low because it wasn't the first pee of the morning)...and she got pregnant because she trusted her CM and other body signs.
I totally think it's a GREAT tool and I don't want to downplay that at all--we will probably buy another when we TTC again (no time soon!)---but hopefully this shows how sensitive the monitor is and how unuseful it would be to buy a used one...and to encourage you to use more than one type of test (we did digital tests each month as well) and trust your instincts, even if/when it doesn't say peak. The monitor will tell you in the instructions that the first month it is not 100% accurate, so be sure especially in the first month to rely on other tests...it is still getting to know your body.
Best of luck--we went the "travel to the known donor" route as well--it does work!
I used one when we were doing ICIs on our own and really liked it. I'd often use opks as well, just for reassurance, but they always agreed on the recommended timing. The test strips are expensive, but you don't have to use one everyday as they suggest. Once you get a sense of your fertile window, you can only use sticks during that time. I'd start testing around CD 10 and keep going until I got a high reading.
You can reset a used monitor. I bought mine new but was going to loan it to a friend a while back (she got pregnant before we made the hand off) and I used these steps to successfully clear my data: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080828070845AA2YJu9
I need to dust mine off and make sure it still works but if it does and you're still looking to get one, let's talk! :-)
Thanks for all the info ladies. Yes, our interest in it is to make the known donor travel a little easier and to not miss cycles due to early ovulation. I've read a few different ways to reset them.
lucubratrix, jrtmom, and kendylann, you all will have PMs from me shortly.
