She's making the bedding for the crib, and asked if I was sure if the material I picked out for the blanket was safe. I said yeah, it's just flannel; same stuff receiving blankets are made of, why? She was like well, I know how paranoid you are. I was confused by this because Im completely opposite of paranoid, so I asked "paranoid?", and she listed all of these that made me "paranoid".
I didnt want a bumper.
I didnt want DH's oldest cousin's drop side crib. (DH's cousin had her last child 17 years ago...)
And (This one is a doozey) I disagreed with her about the fact that children do in fact need to be in a carseat past 2.
And before we got on the carseat argument again, I quickly ended the conversation and hung up.
LOL!
Re: MIL just called.
lol sounds like my sisters. They want me to send back the family crib so they can decide if they want to use it. neither of them plan on families any time soon, and this is the crib my grandparents bought for my older sister (she's 31 now)... they flat out tell me i can't get rid of it, but i did the research and the manufacturer went out of busines in the mid 80s because of too many safty recalls...
love when being safe means you're being paranoid.

oooooohhh boy.
MILs are a trip! Why, why, why!? And just think, WE'LL be the the MIL some day, scary thought!
My MIL came to visit a few weeks ago and I apoligized b/c the litter box was a little stinky (in the back room) because DH hadn't cleaned it in a while. (Litter box duties are my job except for when I'm pregnant. Then DH graciously takes over for those 9 months, every time.) She told me when she was pregnant she always did it, she just held her nose, and that DH already does so much.
Changed that subject pretty quickly.
I didnt think of it like that. I guess that is a positive!

My MIL is also under the assumption that newborns need toys, otherwise their brains wont develop right. She is obsessed with toys. Her extra bedroom has 2-3 bags full of toys for LO. She's going to be awfully surprised when she's waving a toy in his face and he doesnt give a shiit.
Uh, she's pretty much convinced Im birthing a toddler. (So is half of DH's family.)
With DS I got an excersaucer that had a walker on rails. The saucer itself was stationary but he could walk a few steps forward/backward/turn around. It was pretty neat. My Great-Aunt tried to give me one of those original walkers. I tossed that in the trash on bulky pick-up day.
I agree. A newborn does not need toys. I have a tag blanket that I gave DS, and some hanging things that were over his carseat. Add some music, and voil?. That's all they need.
Omg this is great!
