Okay so let me start by saying that my mother along with my two sisters suffered from severe preeclampsia during their first pregnancies. One of my sisters delivered her son at 28 weeks and the other at much further along at 36 weeks. I have mentioned this to my doctor during many of my visits and they have been checking my blood pressure (as they always do) and informing me of where I stand. So today, at 36 weeks and a few days, my BP was higher than it has been throughout this pregnancy (140/80). The doctor doesn't say anything about it but the woman who took it mentions to me that it is pretty high after sitting in the waiting room for 20 minutes. Just as my appointment is ending I ask about my blood pressure and she says it's high but nothing to be concerned about yet although she sends me for blood work to check for pre-e. I guess my question is this, for those of you who have suffered with BP issues how high is high enough to cause concern? I don't want to work myself up over it but I am curious what your experiences are. Thanks in advance!
Re: XP: Blood Pressure Question
My blood pressure has also been a lot higher than normal at this point in pregnancy. Pre pregnancy, it was generally around 100/60. Up until about 35 weeks it was around 120/70, and from 35 weeks on it's been 140-150/80-90.
My doctor said that it's something they'll definitely keep an eye on, but they start to worry more when the bottom number gets above 90. She also mentioned that it's more of an issue if it's always high, versus fluctuating between high-normal and high.
I went into triage late Tuesday night because I hadn't felt the baby all day (everything turned out fine with him), and they decided to do some blood work while I was there and asked me to do the 24 hour urine sample. These were to check for platelet and protein counts. If you're concerned, maybe you can ask to have some lab work done.
ETA- I missed that you already had blood work done. They asked me to do the urine catch because sometimes the small sample given at appointments doesn't always catch protein. It seems like they're just playing it safe and ruling things out, which is good.
