New contact allergy while pregnant?

Anyone just all of a sudden get allergic to something that they weren't while pregnant? I have been battling hives (i think-they really itch) for the last 2 days. Mostly on my legs. I have switched nothing in my diet or detergent or lifestyle at all. They come & go. My MFM doc saw them yesterday when they were very mild & just starting & thought they were hives but said nothing more. Out of his arena I guess. Benedryl does make it better but so sleepy

I have had unexplained reactions to things like that before and took Benadryl to help. My doctor at the time chalked it up to some sort of virus I harbor or came in contact with. I have not had this occur during pregnancy though. What I have noticed while pregnant that is new is that I am lactose intolerant-but I dont break out in hives from that...sorry you are going through this! Hope it gets better soon!

I suddenly started having a reaction to the deodorant that I've used for years, after I got pregnant. I tried several different kinds, even all natural ones, and they still made me break out. Finally I did some research online and Almay was recommended as being hypoallergenic, and it has worked for me.

I think it's totally normal to have a different reaction to something while pregnant. I would probably try to find the source and switch some products before I would take medications for it.

I pet my dog and the back of my hand broke out in hives yesterday morning. a benedryl and some cortozone (or benedryl) cream worked for me. i'm guessing he had just come in from rolling around in the grass. i've always been allergic, but havn't had hives from polinating grass since i was a kid.

Its very common when your pregnant with all the hormone changes. I was using the same belly lotion all pregnancy long with first pregnancy and in the last trimester I broke out in a rash because of it! So weird, but again hormonal changes.

I had the same thing on the back of my right hand since Tuesday morning. I had an appointment yesterday and asked my doctor--she said that while it's not strictly a pregnancy thing, it's more common in pregnancy to have a reaction to something,even if you've never been sensitive to it before. I couldn't think of anything that would have caused it, but she said it could have been anything, even things I came into contact with all the time before. She just recommended a topical cream twice a day. I can't take Benedryl at all--after I take it, I feel near comatose!
