Today I wish I had a female gyno..(TMI)

I'm going in for my second appointment today.  Typically, it doesn't bother me that I have a male OBGYN.  He can look at my vag all day if he wants to.  However, today I have to ask about the bumps that I've found on my labia (3 tiny little bumps that I'm blowing out of proportion and assuming are cancer or an STD).  I also have what may be a swollen gland of some sort on my right breast, by my nipple.  Clearly I'm 12 and have a hard time saying labia, breast, and nipple to a man.  I'm a moron.

Re: Today I wish I had a female gyno..(TMI)

  • I had my first appt yesterday and was totally thrown off my game with a male Dr. I have always had female. I had some bleeding after sex last week and when he was talking to me about I felt my face go all flushed. Then while he was down there looking at my lady business hes like "so your husband works at the Texas Steakhouse...we love that place"....I'm like um ok thinking why are we talking about this right this second LOL. It was weird and I am not sure I like it. I go to a group practice so I may have someone different next month. *fingers crossed*

I'm sure your OB doesn't mind, I bet he's had a million patients says stuff awkwardly to him and he won't even notice!

If it makes you feel better every time H says "wiener" I giggle like a little girl.

If I can avoid it, I will not see a male Ob/Gyn. Sexist, I know.

I have male dentists, PCPs, dermatologists and what have you, but no male Ob/Gyns.

    No, you're not.

I'm like you, I even have trouble with my female Gyno. At my first appointment, she had to keep asking me to spread my legs wider because I kept trying to close my knees.

Same here. My coirkers say that I won't care after I have a baby in front of 10 people, but I highly doubt my preference will ever change.

  • Don't feel bad!!  I think we all go through that.  I would have a hard time saying it too!  And I had a horrible experience with my 1st OBGYN of like, 12 years and ended up switching docs to a man... I thought I would HATE it but he has been very reassuring.  Good luck with your appt. and hope everything is OK!!!

My preference definitely didn't change. The only male present at the birth was a resident...and we joked it was one of 3 vaginas he had ever seen in his life. I definitely love my female OB...and if it comes down to any reason why I typically say "small hands" LOL

I have always felt more comfortable with a man... my first OB was a man and I think I have seen a woman once, and I got all self conscious.
