low blood sugar pre-pregnancy?

I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia a year and a half ago.  I have my glucose test on Friday.  I was wondering if anyone who has hypoglycemia pre-pregnancy passed or didn't pass their test.  My OB nurse told me it didn't put at great risk for getting GD,  but I was just curious what others have experienced. Thanks!

Re: low blood sugar pre-pregnancy?

  • Uggggh I failed my 1 hr and have to take my 3 hr on friday, I figured there wouldn't be a concern because I also was hypoglycemic pre pregnancy. But I wish you the best!

I also was diagnosed with hypoglycemia a few years back.  I failed my 1 hr test but passed the 3-hr test with flying colors.  I have no idea at all if the hypoglycemia has any effect on passing/not passing either test though...

  • I am/was hypoglycemic pre-pregnancy.  While pregnant, I've noticed my blood sugar drops a little faster than it did before.  I had my 1 hour glucose test on Friday and haven't heard from the doctor.  They said if I didn't hear anything, I passed.  I'm hoping that's the case now and the lab isn't behind!

  • I was hypo prior to pregnancy and seem to be low more frquently during pregnancy. I failed the 1hr and passed the 3hr. Make sure you eat prior to your 1hr- something high in protein. My MD believes I failed due to liver dumping secondary to not eating prior.

I was never diagnosed with low blood sugar but mine always fell between 78 and 90 pre-pregnancy. Even if I took it right after eating something. Because I am plus size I had to do the 1 hour test twice. One at 14 weeks and another at 24 weeks. The first time my blood sugar was 113 and the 2nd time it was 100. Even had a BIG piece of ice cream cake the night before. Sometimes I do think my sugar drops more so than it would before I was pregnant.

  • Thank you so much for asking this!  I am also hypoglycemic and have been wondering this same thing!  I hope more people respond because right now it's looking like a lot of ladies are failing the 1 hr who have it...

  • I have had low blood sugar for years and I passed the one hour test (and I had a hunny bun before I drank my drink).   I do indulge in ice cream at least once a week but for the most part I eat lots of vegetables and fruits.   Prior to being KU I wouldn't eat chicken as I don't like it.   I have been making sure to eat it at least once a week for the protein, especially since I still can't stomach most red meat.   Also prior to being KU, my hands would shake alot (not all of the time but alot) and since I have been pregnant they haven't been shaking that much and when they do I know it is a sign I need more nutrients.   Good luck ladies,
