Can I wear the same dress for a wedding and my shower?

I got a beautiful non-maternity dress today for a wedding. It's silk and really loose empire waisted. I love that I can peobbly wear it after the baby comes. If paired with the right jewelry it could be day or evening. The wedding and the shower are one day apart and I think I could do a one hour cleaners if it gets dirty at the shower. Too risky? I just don't like the idea of buying a dress I'll probably wear once unless I can find another suitable non maternity dress.

  • Funny that you posted that....I was thinking the same thing today!

My shower is one month before a friend's wedding.  Can you wear the same dress if a few of the same people from your shower are at the wedding (including the bride)?

  • Sure, why not? I think a lot of people understand that your wardrobe may be a little more limited - wear what you want to!

  • I say go for it, I wouldnt want to spend the money on two.

  • I would.  It's so hard to find dresses that fit in all the right places.  I'm wearing my Easter dress to my baby shower.

Selfishly, can you post it? I'd love to see it. :) I also think you can do both.

I may be the exception, but I probably wouldn't, especially since it's only 1 day apart and both events will involve pictures all over facebook.  :)

  • I have a similar predicament, my 10 yr HS reunion and then the next day is my shower. I contemplated wearing the same dress to both, but decided against it. I have an awesome silky Gap Maternity dress I got a while back on clearance and wanted to wear it, but it's more formal and appropriate for the reunion. I ended up buying a bunch of maternity dresses from Target.com and am choosing one to keep and wear for the shower, then returning the rest since the selection in store isn't very good. I figure my shower is less formal, plus I'd like at least one summery, comfortable dress to get me through the end. I went to Motherhood too, but their selection was really lacking and I wasn't impressed with anything they had.

  • I was wondering this too because I was planning on wearing the same dress to my brother and sister's graduation, one of my showers & a friend's wedding. It's just so perfect and with the right accessories, I think I could make it work for each.

Ya, this is me too. I just got a dress that I was going to wear to a wedding. I considered wearing it to a bridal shower the day before but have decided against it. Mostly for the picture aspect!

I would definitely do it if they weren't a day apart.  The two-days-in-a-row thing would probably cause me to buy two different dresses.

I'm not fb friends with anyone going to the wedding and will not post pics of it myself. It's a tangential wedding of one of H's old  colleagues. I've never met anyone going besides MH.

I would. I'm sure many people would understand how limited our wardrobes can be these days and probably wouldn't think anything of it.

  • I am planning on doing that exact same thing. Why spend money on something you will only wear once or twice?

Go for it! Why waste money on a dress you might only wear 1 time. I found a dress for my shower in July and planning on wearing to a wedding in June and possibly even my friends Bridal shower in late July. Figure only 2 people will know I am repeat wearing.

  • I was wondering the same thing!  I got a 2 dresses (like them both) but can't decide which I should wear to my shower or a wedding 2 weeks later.  Well now I have started to like one of the dresses more so I want to wear it to both...but 4 people will be at my shower and at the wedding and sitting with us.

This is my favorite right now (it looks better on).  It fits the girls nicely and goes right over the bra straps...so no fussing for me.

And this is the other one:
