What do people think of Davia as a way to honor a David? How would you pronounce it? I can see: (1) Day-vee-uh (like Octavia); (2) Day-vyuh; (3) Dahh-vee-uh; or (4) Dahh-vyuh? The sound skirts around a lot of names I like: Octavia, Delia, Dahlia, Nadia.
Would she be called Davy? Do we hate that?
Maybe as a middle name? Does this seem made up because Davida is more traditionally the feminine version of David?
What about Davina?
Not pegnant, just kicking names around for future baby #2.
Thanks!!!
Re: Davia?
I would pronounce it as option #3.
I think it's cute, but thumbs down to Davy.

I like Davia pronounced as your option #3.
The only Davina I know is Davina McCall, UK tv presenter.
I once knew a Deva, pronounced Dave-uh.
Overall Davia/Davina/Deva are NMS, but I think they are nice.
I would pronounce it like DAH-vee-yah. If you call her Davia, then that's what others will call her. If you call her Davy, then others will call her that. I prefer Davia, since it's a girl and Davy is a boy's name to me.
Normally I'm not one for very odd first names, but this is similar to Dania and Dahlia, and I think it's rather pretty.
If you are naming a girl Davia to honor a David, it should be pronounced like David. I.e., Day-vee-uh.
I love the name Davina. I have a daughter named Devana. In fact, it was a coin toss between Devana and Devina at the hospital, the day we were going home! I have always loved the name ever since I heard it. There are different spellings and we chose the "DE-" spelling so we could shorten it to Devi, which I also love. (And I was considering the Davy possibility; I don't like it at all.)
I am not huge on Davia; it just sounds like something's missing. But if you love it, go for it!
Oh and I came across the name Davina while looking for a femine form of David in a baby name book years ago. Big fan of David too.
Davia is my sister's name and it's pronounced like David, just replacing the d with the a (you're #1). I also have a friend I went to high school with named Davina. I love both names so I say go for either one
PS - No one that I know of, even when she moved to Canada, pronounced her name Dah-via.
Love Davia. Pronounce #1. Nickname Davy is just ok.
Thanks, guys! Just something I was kind of toying around with and wanted to see some opinions. It probably wouldn't even be on the table unless we had a second baby (that was a girl) and a third baby (which I am still working on convincing my husband about) that was also a girl. Then maybe we will do it as a middle name for number 3 because we wouldn't want to use it on #2 girl if prospective #3 ended up being a boy.. We are going with David if we have any boys. I probably don't need to decide today!
Also, thanks for linking to that pronunciation guide. That is awesome!
