Who's planning on bc after birth?

What kind and what are your reasons? ?I am definitely going to need some bc after I give birth to this kid but I'm scared to go back on the pill. ?It failed me once don't want to take that chance with a newborn!

  • ::Raises hand::

I'm thinking of going with an IUD, but I still need to discuss it with my Dr. I'll be BF'ng, so that will make a difference in what I can use.

  • I will probably go back on the pill. I have PCOS and my periods are very irregular w/out the pill. But, I might wait and see how my periods are after birth/delivery. If my periods regulate (with the help of metformin), I might just go back to charting and knowing when I ovulate and avoid sex (or use a condom) on those days.
  • I'm seriously thinking about the mirena, but I want to decide if I'll have anymore first. This might be our last (we have two dd). If I decide we want one more then I'll just go on the pill sensonal I really liked that before we started trying.
  • I was thinking about the mirena.  Mom is a nurse and suggests going with that too if you'll be bfing.  Talk to your dr for sure!  :)
  • I'm just going to chart and use condoms.

  • I'm considering the mirena but the idea of having something in my uterus kind of freaks me out lol. ?It's looking like that is my only real option though with the breastfeeding.
  • I think we're going to use a combination of charting and condoms, only we'll actually follow it this time!
  • We're going to have to do something. Obviously I never did BC after the girls and I get PG very quickly (while nursing). It's not that we would be upset with a 4th kid, but we don't know if we can handle it with no help around.

I have no idea. I hate BC pills. I don't want an IUD, and DH isn't getting "snipped" and I'm not getting my "tubes tied." Doesn't leave many options.?

I think that leaves you with charting and condoms lol.?

  • as you can see charting does not work for us. Dont want to use condoms and the pill gives me migrains. Not sure what we will do. Maybe be like the Duggars?

You should try charting to figure out your fertile times (3-5 days per month). It is how we got pregnant (had some difficulty). If you are interested, you should read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." All you do is take your temperature every morning before you get up. When you start to see a spike, you are ovulating or close to ovulating. You can track it for free with Fertilityfriend.com  and it will even give you the dates you are most fertile.

  • My body can't tolerate the pill (seriously, I LOSE my mind) - but I did well with Nuva Ring - so I might try that again.  I don't know anything about Mirena though, that could be an option.

  • I am getting a Mirena IUD inserted at my 6-week pp checkup.  My OB highly recommended it since I can be bad about remembering to take a pill.  She also mentioned the Depo-Provera shot but she warned that it can cause weight gain so she actually suggested that I not go that route.
  • im doing marenia or whatever its called. its a 5 year b.c. IUD.

the pill got me knocked up 2xs. ive learned...

Thanks! I actually don't need to chart. I know when I'm fertile. We just haven't been careful and keep getting PG! LOL!

I have a very regular cycle even after 2 kids and BFing...........it's just a matter of paying a LOT of attention this time.

Well, on the brightside...you could have your own tv show!

write it down then missy! You are the perfect candidate for charting (regular cycles, obvious fertile time, etc.) It will work perfectly for you - if you do it right! Smile

ROFL. You have a point. I dunno I'm scared it's going to get infected or lost lol. ?I'm just not educated well on it. ?I plan on asking my OB about it next appointment.?

  • We were using the pill + condoms for 8 years before TTC (if I had still managed to get pregnant, I would have been really impressed!).  After this baby comes we plan to use nothing, have another kid or two, and then DH wants to get snipped.  I may go back on the pill anyway to get regular periods again, although charting was a big help in knowing when they would come.

  • I'm going back on Yasmin when I'm finished breastfeeding.  I hated every pill but that one and it has the bonus of a built in diuretic.  lol
  • When we were still TTA after DS I was using a diaphragm.  You lose spontaneity, but after coming off of BCP's I'll never go back.  If I had regular cycles (still no AF, almost 2 years since I've seen her) and was TTA, I'd just use it until after I O'd then you don't have to worry about it every time.
