Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Traveling with a 5 month old - will it be a disaster?

We will be flying and traveling to a different time zone in July.  Only one hour difference.

She currently does not have a day time schedule or even recognizable patterns aside from going to bed and waking up around the same time each day.

Is traveling at almost 5 months going to completely mess her up if I do my best to make sure she naps and sleeps on the same schedule that she would if we were home?

I am dreading this!

  • I don't think it should be a problem children are good with coping with change.

We drove to NC when little one was 2months old, the drive was hellacious only because we had to stop every so often so I could feed him and change his diaper. Otherwise it wasn't horrible he stayed on his own schedule of sleeping and feedings.

Its entirely in the way YOU react, she'll take her ques from you.

    Good Luck!

  • I just got back from 8 days of travel with my DS (almost 5 months) and it was fine.  You have to go with the flow - like if she falls asleep in the car seat, then that will count as a nap.  The day we flew out, DS was awake from 4:30 am until we got picked up at the airport at 2pm and was fine.  Just do your best to keep to bed and waking times on schedule and the naps will fall into place.  DS napped great, better than at home actually.  When she's tired, give her to the opportunity to sleep.  That's the best you can do.  Good luck!
