Baby Names

Are these names too matchy?

I have a daughter named Eleanor and a little boy named Samuel (Sam). This weekend I completely fell in love with the name Eliza. (We don't know what we're having yet, so this may not even be an issue.) Anyway, Are Eleanor and Eliza too matchy or close in sound?

Re: Are these names too matchy?

  • I really dislike matching names and I don't think Eleanor and Eliza are all that matchy.  Go for it.

  • Normally I don't like same letter names either, but I love both Eleanor and Eliza, so I would totally make an exception :)

I agree with PP, they are two totally different sounding names. I do love all three names by the way...very classy and very cute!

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  • Usually I am really picky about matchy names but I really like these together.  Great name choices all around.

  • I personally wouldn't use them in the same sibset, but I wouldn't side-eye someone who did. Not a big deal IMO, and I adore the name Eliza.

  • Not at all. I LOVE the name Eliza-- just met the sweetest little 7 month old named Eliza (my sister's new niece as of her wedding this weekend!). It made me love the name even more.

  • I would go for it! I love the name Eliza but, of course, I can't get DH on board Sad My only concern would be if you plan to use nns like Ellie then you could have two little girls fighting over a name Big Smile With that said, I think Eliza is a great stand alone name and won't have use for a nn.

  • I think that even though they start with the same letter they don't really sounds alike so I say use it.

  • Thanks, ladies! I can't wait to show this to DH. He loves the names but is worried about them starting with the same letter. I'm sad because I gave away some of of Eleanor's bibs with monogrammed Es on the them because I thought I would never have a little girl with an E name.

Oh, and I'm not worried about the nn. Eleanor corrects people when they call her anything other than Eleanor, and if we shortened Eliza it would just be to Liza.

For the ladies who said they would use the name Eleanor for a future DD...go for it! We get so many compliments on it. I, of course, love it!

  • Not at all. FWIW, I came from a family all w/the same first initial letter J. I swore when I had children I'd never name them w/the same first letter.

Alas, after Moira, when I was expecting again, we fell in love with Maeve. Now we have two little girls w/"M" names, and I wouldn't change a thing!
