Like others have said its different for everyone. I got off of BC in fed and got prego in March. My doc told me the more you think about it the longer it will take so once off of BC just enjoy your partner and it will happen when your body is ready. :-)
I hate this type of "advice." My MIL told us for two years, "Just relax and don't try so hard! That's your problem!"
Turns out I had a legitimate hormone deficiency. Stupid b!tch.

If it was that easy a lot of infertile couple would be pregnant right away. Nobody starts trying thinking it will take a long time. I think your doctor's comment is in the top 10 of most annoying comments people hear when TTC, right next to get drunk and it will happen.
Why wouldn't it go on TTC? Anyway, this was a surprise, it was one month of not preventing after a few months of... well withdrawal near ovulation because I'm very regular.
TTC= TRYING TO CONCEIVE meaning they are NOT pregnant and cannot tell her how long it took them to get pregnant.
Exactly.
I've never understood why someone would assume a board for people who are not pregnant and are still trying would be the right place to ask how long it took to get pregnant. It doesn't make sense. Some people on that board have kids but it's not what the board is about--it's all in the title--TTC
6 months after we stopped BC, we got pregnant. Unfortunately we lost that baby. We took 2 months off from TTC per doctor's orders. It took exactly one year to get pregnant again. It was our 3rd medicated cycle. In total, we have been TTC for 22 months.

I looked at her thread and there were plenty of women that were trying for their second or third.
After getting off bc I got pregnant the 2nd month of trying (with my first pregnancy). With this pregnancy it wasn't planned and it only took one 'oops' to get pregnant. I guess now we know if we want to have a 3rd child that we get pregnant pretty easily and to be more careful so they are a little more spaced apart next time!
I temped and charted from June to Dec of 2011, we started trying in Dec, got pregnant right away but had a blighted ovum m/c in Jan. We TTA in Feb and got pregnant in March. 11 weeks now.
We weren't TTC but after I spent 4 months abroad away from my fiance (and not taking BCP while gone) I got pregnant the first time we had sex after I came home. Happy accident!
one hot and steamy night LOL It was a surprise, and a good one but it was the first time we did it with out a condom. So i guess first cycle and some good timing....
I got off BCP in early March and started charting. We got pregnant the first cycle of actually ttc. We're very, very grateful though because this doesn't typically happen. Good luck!

I really appreciate everyone's helpful comments! Thank you so much! I did not, however, understand the snarky comments about the TTC board. Just because they are TTC doesn't mean that they don't already have children. But thanks, I guess, for the opinions. I am still not quite familiar with this website so bear with me. Thanks again.
I got off BCP about a year before my husband and I started trying. I didn't like the thought of them, and saw how long it took my sister to have a baby after quitting them, so we switched to another form of contraceptive.
Then when we started TTC we instantly got pregnant, but lost the baby at 6 weeks. I JUST found out I'm pregnant again! And we've been trying for 2 months this time. I'm 5 weeks and hoping, hoping, hoping, and praying that this baby stays with us.
I had been off BCP for over a year - we use NFP as our form of BC. Once we decided to try it took us 2 cycles to get pregnant. But - since we use NFP for our BC, I knew exactly when I was fertile and when I ovulated which I'm sure greatly helped the odds of becoming pregnant so fast.
With my first, we planned to start trying in September 2009. I stopped BCP in June of that year (after 10 years of use for migraines), and it took 6 months for my cycle to regulate. We started trying in September and got a BFP in November. With this one, we weren't trying, but weren't preventing for about 4-5 months before our BFP. (I never went back on hormonal BC after having DS.)
Re: How long to get preg?
One month with my first, which ended in miscarriage.
Then two years of not being able to conceive. I started taking progesterone, and then it took 3 months.
With this one, one month (also on progesterone).
