Trying to Get Pregnant

DH lost his job today

Still a little numb.

I am working part-time at a charity at the moment (20 hours p/w) as have always had stress issues and we wanted to get me sorted (in my head) before we started trying for a baby.

DH has been concerned about his job for a couple of weeks, he is a salesman and has been with his company for 1.5 years, made some incredible sales, got awards etc however this year he hasn't made one. Unfortunately when you're having a bad run there they put you on harder zones (makes sense from their point of view) - but it makes it harder for him to make any sales.

He called me this afternoon telling me they were giving him his notice next monday, and offered him the chance to resign today so he wouldn't be 'fired'. Gets 2 weeks pay from today then we're just on my wages.

To make it worse? We just moved into a new rental.

  • Oh that bites, sorry! Since he quit he won't be eligible for unemployment which is unfortunate. That's the only thing that would have been good about being discharged! FX he finds something else soon! How's the job market in your area?

  • I am so sorry :0( I've been let go before and I know it's not fun. I hope he didn't "resign" for unemployment reasons. My best advice is not to be picky about the next job. I had to start waitressing until I found a better job. It was hell for me but we were better off financially. Stay strong and GL.

  • I'm so sorry.  That really sucks.  While it's true you can't collect unemployment if you resign, it's also so much harder to get a new job when you have to tell your potential future employers you were fired.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.  Best of luck to your husband - here's hoping he finds a new job quickly.

  • ...so sorry to hear of this! :( It is NOT easy out there these days... My SO and I are BOTH in sales also... some months are feast and some are famine...

Might be too late... BUT, I would opt to be fired... then he can collect unemployment to help supplement the little income that you are bringing in while he is looking for another job!

If he resigns... he cannot collect unemployment... and two weeks of pay is not really going to go very far  if he is out of work for months. :(

     Just a thought...

Best of luck to you both!

  • So sorry that this happened, hopefully he'll be able to find something soon and y'all won't be impacted by the changes.  FX for y'all!
  • Thanks so much everyone for your kind words.

We are in NZ so because I work part-time we aren't eligible for any unemployment no matter the situation. Balls.

We are both applying for jobs, in our area and all over the country (and Australia), as if one of us gets something full-time we can both relocate and the other can find something. We live in quite a desirable area where competition for jobs is insanely tough.

    Thanks :)
