Re: HELP Hand mouth and foot??

  • My son had it when he was 3mths old. He only had it in his mouth. We did tylenol every 4hrs and a maalox & benadryl solution for his mouth to help numb so he would nurse. The fever broke after 3 days and he went back to daycare on day 4. Just make sure to really sanatize hands after diaper changes since it can pass in the stool for about a month. Thoughts and prayers for quick healing!

  • We had it REALLY bad! Neither of my children are in day care so I'm not sure how we got it, but my 4 year old had it first and it basically didn't bother here, then my nine month old got it and his entire body blistered..he didn't sleep for 2 days straight, no naps..we got a cream from the dr for the open sores on his body, glyoxide for his oral sores and were told to give him 1/2 tsp- 1 tsp benadryl to help him sleep. My four year old was over it in 4 days...my son is almost over it (it's been about 5 days) and I just caught it 2 days ago. Everywhere I read said the symptoms are less with adults, but i have been in the most excruciating pain. It's only on my palm, soles of my feet and nose, but it feels like thousand of little burns..I can barely walk from the blisters in between my toes and on my heels and even typing is painful. Just make sure to be very diligent about sanitizing I suppose! Good luck it sucks!

  • By the way my dr said that it pass through saliva, the fluid that leaks from the blisters and fecal matter. He also told me that it can be contagious in their fecal matter for up to a month so be extra careful with diaper changes!

  • DD currently has HFMD. She is currently on day 5 of it. Days 1 and 2 were not too bad, and she maybe had a low grade fever. The blisters were mostly from thighs down to her feet, with a few on her hands, none in her mouth. Sleep and eating were normal.

Days 3-4 were terrible. Sleep was non-existent, sores made it to her mouth so eating was also out of the window. We gave Tylenol, and the pedi said we can give her Kank-aid (sp?) for the sores in her mouth, along with Aveeno Anti-itch for the body. He initially gave us a script for Nyastatin since he thought it was a yeast infection rash. We use that in the diaper area. Not sure if it really does anything.

Day 5 - She is feeling better and eating better. Sleep was a smidge better. We seem to be on the downswing of it. Sores seem to be healing and all of it has been scabbed up.

Pedi said she cannot return to daycare until everything is cleared up. The sores, saliva, and feces are how it is transmitted, so even when the fever breaks, she is still contagious. Pedi said 7-10 days, and that is what it is looking like for us.

    Good luck!
