How long to get preg?

I posted this question  on the TTC board -- apparently not the right board. I'm just wondering how long it took everyone to conceive. I plan to get off of my BCP in August and start actively TTC in October. I'm ready to be a mama and have babies on the brain! Thank you!
Peace, love and light.

I was not on birth control but it took me 2 months with my first and 1st try with this one.

  • It is different for everyone. Could be the first cycle, could be a year.

We went through two miscarriages and a year of trying before having DS. The second time around, it took me 6 months to get pregnant and then two miscarriages to bring me to where I am today. This is my 6th pregnancy. I have a 2 year old.

I would suggest reading up on temping/charting/ovulation predictor kits etc. It can take a lot longer to get pregnant if you don't know when you ovulate. Get to know your body and your cycles. I'd start doing the ovulation predictors/temping now so that you understand your cycles.

  • Its different with everyone woman and every pregnancy. With my first two it was right away then our third took almost 6months and this little one was the first month we tried. I would get an ovulation kit so you can track your days if you are really wanting to try asap. But it can take time so just stay calm and enjoy the process! Good Luck :)

  • It took us roughly 1 1/2 years of not TTC but not TTA, followed by 2 months of actively TTC.  I miscarried at 8 weeks after seeing the heartbeat.  It took us another 6 months of actively TTC for this one.

  • DD was a surprise. It took 7 months to get pregnant w/ baby #2. I then miscarried that baby. Then 2 cycles charting for this current pregnancy.

Ditto. But I'm not sure if this is the norm. When the nurse at my OB's office heard this she said "wow, well aren't you fertile!" Some ladies will need some time to regulate when coming off BCPs.

    Every woman is different!!

For me, I went off BCP in late March and had cycle #1 (no pregnancy). The next month I started charting and became pregnant (on cycle #2). I feel very fortunate and lucky that it only took us 2 months to become pregnant. I was prepared for it to take longer.

  • One year exactly after closely monitoring cycles 6 months prior to TTC. I had read 'Taking Charge if Your Fertility' - highly recommend despite it being a long read! Considering we got pregnant with #1 while correctly using birth control, our long journey to achieve this pregnancy was surprising and tough. May you have better luck than I did :)

RE the bolded: that is correct; it's not the right board. Women on the TTGP board are just that- trying to get pregnant. Not already pregnant.

It took us 7 cycles, but I have never been on BCP. It can take your body awhile to regulate after stopping BCP. It can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive.

  • About a year and a half, with a few breaks for testing. We had success on our 2nd unmedicated IUI after being diagnosed with male factor infertility and a wacky cervix. Everyone is truly different, so try (even though it's hard) to be patient. Chart, use OPKs, but don't go crazy stressing yourself out. And above all - listen to your intuition and your body. I'm really glad we pursued testing right at 8 month mark (since we're older), because I felt confident that I was ovulating and had data to back it up. There was an "easy" problem to fix, but it would have kept us from conceiving had we not gone to get checked out.

  • Like others have said its different for everyone. I got off of BC in fed and got prego in March. My doc told me the more you think about it the longer it will take so once off of BC just enjoy your partner and it will happen when your body is ready. :-)

  • For ds, when I got off bcp my period never returned. It took me just over one year and lots of IF-related appointments and treatments to get pregnant. This time, my cycle returned on its own while I was still breastfeeding and we got pregnant our first month trying! So, you truly never know what's going to happen.

Well in my case it didn't go as smoothly as some. We started TTC in October 2010' had a c/p in December 2010. Then continued TTC. Got pregnant in June 2011, m/c in July 2011. And we didn't get another positive until now, May 2012. Praying for a sticky baby! Hope you experience no road bumps!
