Trouble TTC

Met question: anyone's RE do only 'regular' met as opposed to extended release?

i  know i asked this before, but my hormone riddled brain forgets the answers ok!

my RE said he will only do regular Met, because he said it has a better track record of helping than the extended release.  if this cycle fails i am going to finally cave and do the met preparing for september's ivf (despite my fears and misgivings of all the side effects ugh)    anyone elses RE say anything about this?  *i am not showing as IR if this makes a difference.

My RE has me on 2000mg of the ER a day currently.  The way she explained it was that there is a slight difference in the blood sugar lowering capabilities between the ER and regular but the regular Met has a little harsher side effects.

  • I am on regular met due to the fact that it's cheaper. I have absolutely NO copay for it, but would pay 15-20 bucks for xr met. Reg met side effects I understand as being a little worse but that's only until you get used to taking them. That's how it was for me, anyhow.

  • I'm on regular Metformin as well because I've tolerated the side effects fine and it's cheaper.

I'm also on regular met. No clue why!  I also am not IR and not trying to lose weight ....I'm taking it to hopefully help my AFC to go down (some initial testing shows it can help with extreme AFC). Maybe that's why? No idea

  • My RE only does the ER version.  Not sure why, though I'm thinking it has to do with SEs.
