Breastfeeding

at wit's end with cluster feeding

I need some encouragement regarding cluster feeding.  DD nurses nearly nonstop from 5 pm to 11 pm almost ever evening. I might get a 15 minute break here or thrre to scarf down dinner or run to the bathroom.  I know this can be normal, but it really messes with my head.  I constantly worry if I'm making enough even though I know I am.  She sleeps great once she's finally done (usually 7 hours), so I feel like I shouldn't complain. It's just frustrating to not be able to spend time focusing on just DS. He gets frustrated too. He tries to climb in my lap, pulls at the boppy, and throws fits.  Will there ever be an end to evening cluster feeding? I can't imagine 10 more months of this.

I dont have any advice but you're not alone. DS does the same thing. Last night it was from 3-930. He ate non-stop. I finally had dinner at 10pm and went straight to bed. DH was gone biking and then stayed to have beers with the boys after... I was so pissed at him when he got home. It must be so nice for men to just get up and go when they please and not have to worry about breastfeeding. Im hoping itll pass soon... Hang in there we'll get through it!

  • My experience is that the evening cluster feeds ended around 3 month for my LO.  Just hang in there, and know that he is building your supply for the long term.
  • My DD did this from about 8 weeks until 3-4 months, though not for as long as you describe, it was more like from 4-8.  But I never felt like I could get anything done or go anywhere, even a quick run to the grocery store.  I was also just starting back to work and had to leave right at 4 to get home to her.  It did pass, and now she eats at 5 when I get home and again between 6:30-7 before putting her down for the night.  My only consolation was that it kept her sleeping all night and helped my milk supply.  There is an end in sight!  Hang in there :)
