January 2013 Moms

Really...January??

So, I'm wondering what everyone thinks about having a "January baby"?  I know we are all so fortunate and thrilled to be pregnant and "timing" pregnancies is a luxury that is not an option for many of us, but...I guess I never saw myself having a baby in January.  Anyone else??

Re: Really...January??

  • Yeah, I feel the same way. I had posted a few days ago about how we have SO many January birthdays in our family and friends. It almost feels silly that we are adding another one to the mix, but we are thrilled nonetheless! I just wonder if he/she will be born on someone else's birthday!

For us, it's perfect!! Well it just fits into our family. We have random months that are bombarded with birthdays, and January is one of them! Including mine!!

  • I'm cool with it. I'd much rather be super pregnant in December and January, than I would in July and August. I'd also rather have a middle of the school year baby, than a late summer baby in terms of school cut off dates and kindergarten readiness. Just of few things that come to mind.

We were trying to avoid football season - HAHA! Really never thought about the possibility of a blizzard, but that could happen to us as well. Oh well, we will just take it as it comes :)

I think it's fine. I second what PP said about kindergarten readiness. Having a July birthday, I was always one of the youngest of my peers. Always envied my classmates with earlier birthdays. One thing that could be a bit crazy is baby being born on or very close to a major holiday if he/she decides to come early...

Um, I think it's great! Last month, I would have been due on Christmas. I only felt bad about that because I already have a DD, but I would have taken it. I think anyone who has struggled to get pregnant, or has had losses, would/will be thrilled to have a baby anytime.

I live in Southeat Texas, so no blizzard worries here. I'd much rather play around with the odds of a snow day (you would laugh if you saw what we consider a snow day) than a hurricane (which I dealt with when I was pg with DS). So hurricane season, another great reason to have a January baby! :)

  • i loved my May baby. It was perfect--never got too hot towards the end of pregnancy, and we enjoyed the summer. i'm afraid that with a dead-of-winter baby, we're going to be cooped in the house until it stops snowing because i'll be afraid to brave going out with 2u2.

but, as others have said, i'm thrilled to be pregnant and extremely grateful for this little nugget.

  • I don't have any birthdays in the month of January on my side of the family but my hubby's sister has her son's birthday and second baby due a week before mine. So it'll turn into a busy month for us :)

I felt the same way about it Texas has unbelievably crazy hot summers but it shouldn't be too bad since I won't be too huge by then @ least I don't think.

I think I'm the only person who wouldn't mind be huge in the summer.  I grew up in GA and still live in the south & *love* hot weather.  All I can think of is how much cuter summer maternity clothes (and, IMO, all clothes) are than winter clothes.

Despite having hot summers where I live, we have had some snow... well ice.  When it snows here (and it snowed like 10 times last year), it turns to a sheet of ice & the whole city shuts down bc we aren't equipped to handle it.  My mom already joked that we'd probably have an ice storm in Jan.  Thanks mom.  Stick out tongue

  • It certainly wasn't my original "plan" to have a winter baby.  DS was born in August, and we decided that because DH is a teacher it would be better to aim for Spring time next time, so we did.  We successfully conceived our first cycle trying, which would have given us a May 2012 baby.

But, that ended in miscarriage at 11.5 weeks.  So from there, it was a matter of whatever time it came, then that's what was meant to be.

    And here I am.

  • After all I've been through, this baby can claw out of my belly butten alien style in a january blizzard, in the backseat of a car in a snow drift, for all I care.

But January has perks! We will likely miss the holidays with a newborn, never be giant in the summer and no one will notice you aren't back to size right away when you can still wear warm clothing.

  • I am thrilled to be having a baby at any time. However every time there are pros and cons

So pros for Jan: Not any January b-days in my immediate family, I won't have to be huge in the summer and hopefully bad 1st tri symptoms should be gone by July 4th making an overall enjoyable summer.

Cons: I live right along Lake MI and we can have brutal winters, to make it worse I don't like the hospital in our town so I am delivering just North of us (only 20 mins in good weather/traffic but can easily be 60+ in Jan).  Depending on when baby chooses to arrive, his/her birthday could be very close to Christmas.

Although my luck it's going to be a February baby.
