Changing carseat to FF

Re: Changing carseat to FF

  • We are still rear-facing our older DD and she is over 3. She's 30lbs and her seat rear-faces until she's 35 lbs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the new guidelines say to stay rear-facing until age 2 or until they exceed the weight limit. In my case, we are not at the weigh limit even though she's well over 2.

  • Ideally we will keep her RF as long as possible. She is tiny and should be able to safely fit RF for a long time.

Realistically, we have another on the way, due when A is 17 months old. There is no way to have two rear facing seats in my car and still have room up front for my husband to safely drive.

Our plan is to get a bigger car before the second is due anyway, then we'll have the space we need for a family of four and they can both RF. But if we can't get a car by then, A is going to have to FF, at least until we get something big enough.

We will keep her rear facing until she out grows the safe RFing limits of her car seat or until she is at least 2. She is at the 99%ile for height and weight, so if she keeps that up it is possible she would pass the limits around 20-22 months, but I am hopeful she will slow down on growing just a bit as she gets more active and it becomes a non-issue.
    Me too.

We'll be at least 18 months and made it past two years with Isaac. We only turned him because we had to switch the seats around for Ezra's arrival.

I was thinking about this today--that's probably what we'll do.  We'll keep Liam RF until we have #2.  DH is tall, and there's no way he'd be able to drive our car if the seats had to be up as far as they do with a carseat behind them.  So, he'll probably be close to 2!
