Baby Acne or Milia at 7 weeks

About a week ago, Jelly Bean got small bumps on her nose.  One week later she has red ones on her chin, cheeks and along the top of her shoulders.  Everything I've read says baby acne appears a few weeks after birth not over a month later, and that milia is small white bumps.  I would call them milia except the fact that they are red bases with white heads.  Of course they are more noticeable when she cries and when she falls a sleep on her cheek.  Can baby acne or milia develop this late after birth?  We do live in the desert and the temperatures are beginning to hit triple digits, could heat be causing the bumps?  Also, she spits up a lot and I was wondering if the dried breast milk could be irritating her skin.  Anyone have experience with any of this?  We have our 2 month appt next week and plan to discuss it with her ped also.  TIA!

My DD presented at 7wks with what we thought was baby acne, she was spitting up a bit as well, what we thought was baby acne turned out to be hives accompanied by weeping eczema that started to pustule due to a milk protein allergy. After further testing when she was a bit older we found out that her allergies extended to eggs as well which I of course was eating for the healthy protein and passing to her through BM. I had no idea that allergies can present after so many weeks of exposure but they can. Her rash was localized to her face but she did start to develop hives on her tummy and back as well. Talk to your pedi to make sure.

  • DS1 had baby acne around 2 months... the pedi said they would go away, my friend said to put breast milk on the acne.  So I would say that dried breast milk would not be an irritant unless she is allergic to it.

  • Milla is something they are born with. Mine had it on her nose and it was gone by six weeks it id not come nd go or flair up. My LO also had the acne, it started at 3 weeks and went away at 5 weeks. Heat did seem to make it worse.  Maybe your LO just has a delayed case of baby acne.

Thanks guys.  She's not uncomfortable or fussy so I will treat it as acne and wait till next week and talk to the doc.  Maybe it will clear up some by then.  Just didn't know if it could come later.

My little girl has the same thing going on right now.. she is also 7 weeks and we see her pedi next week too. They are little red bumps all over her face, neck and now they have spread to her shoulders and chest. The last day or two they appear to be itchy.. :(  I really hope it's not an allergy...
