Breastfeeding

Is she weaning herself or am I not producing enough?

My LO is 8.5 months and has been breastfed since birth.  I have had to supplement 1 bottle feeding a day with formula due to my inability to pump for that feeding.  I started coaching and it isn't something I can do infront of my middle school runners

For the last couple weeks after her feedings she is sometimes fussy to the point of crying about 15-20 minutes after a feeding.  Today I made up a bottle and she took 3 ounces of formula.  Does this indicate I am starting to dry up?  I have "created" my own feeding session at 9:30-10 (she goes to bed at 7ish) but I'm getting less and less.  I'm only getting between 3-4 ounces if I am lucky at that session.

How do I know if I should just wean her or do I just still breastfeed when I can and finish up with formula if she is still hungry?

TIA!  8-)

  • If you are able to pump 3-4 oz that late at night, I would not think its a supply issue. I only pump 4 oz a session in the middle of the day, and even less at night and I know my supply is good. If she is acting hungry shortly after a feeding, why not put her back to the breast. She could just be tired and looking for comfort.

Just because she will take a bottle does not mean your supply is low. I would try to nurse instead of the bottle to keep your supply going, assuming you are not ready to wean.
