Rude comments about #3

XP from 2 u 2: I was at Old Navy with the kids. DS was standing in front of the stroller making DD laugh. He pulled on her feet and fell backwards and hit his head on the cement floor. Of course he started screaming badly as I heard the fall and it was loud.I go to him. A women comes over (i thought she was there to see if he was ok) she is standing 3 feet from us, she then says (while he is screaming) "what's their age difference?" in a nasty way. I look at her and dont answer as DS is still screaming and hugging me. I stall for a bit and dont talk to her thinking she would leave. I get him on the stroller, get him a drink etc. She is stiill standing there...she says again in a more nasty voice "so you have two close in age and you are having ANOTHER one??"At that point I knew I didnt want to scream in front of my kids or be really rude back (since I was SO ready to tell her to leave) so I just said "Im sorry, but Im just trying to console my son here" and she looked at me and said "fine, whatever" and walked away. It was just an inappropriate comment at a bad time.People think because they see a belly and 2 little kids that they can say whatever they want. I am so done with the comments. I live in a town where many people have kids close in age...why do I get all the comments? One day a few months ago I was in the grocery store and the kids were happy in the cart singing. An older woman comes near me, grabs cereral from the shelf and says "ANOTHER one??" and looks right at my belly....I didnt even know she was talking to me until she was walking away. SERIOUSLY?!?I am so tired, hormonal, cranky and ready to not be pregnant anymore...don't mess with me right now. Baby's are blessings, even if I have an opinion about the amount of kids someone has or how close in age I would NEVER say it to them. Anyone else get really rude comments? How do you handle it? (I want to hear from moms who have more than 3 too, I cant imagine what you all get from people).

  • FWIW, my SIL has 3 babies ages 3, 2, and 1. She absolutely has her hands full, but I admire her so much for all her hard work. She loves her kids, without a doubt, even when it comes to discipline. She is patient when it comes to the task of raising 3 kids on one paycheck, and she is diligent about keeping her family out of debt. She strives to be a good Christian wife and momma, and she somehow manages to squeeze in time for her family, too. (This weekend, she helped throw her sister's wedding...baked the cake, decorated the church, coordinated the dinner, and still made time to go with her sis to get their nails done.) I think she is Super Woman!

Having 3 kids may mean more little ones to watch after, but it also means 3x the love and hugs. I hope that the blessings they provide outweigh others' random rude comments. Hang in there!

  • I'm so sorry! I get crap from my mother for having just one. "Why can't you be more focused on your career? I couldn't be, I had you three. Children ruin your lives, blah, blah, blah." The way I see it is you're right. Babies are a huge blessing and having them close in age would make it even better! Go you!

she sounds like a wonderful woman, and she is blessed to have a SIL who appreciates her.

I think more than anything it just shocked me that someone who go out of their way to try and get info at a bad time just to be nasty and attack. get a life ;)

    ugh thats tough too.

I have my own opinions about people and their lives but unless it has a direct impact on me I keep my mouth shut.

Motherhood has taught me to smile and nod, and move on....I just think this woman is not a nice person at all. (i am holding back ;)

  • People never seize to amaze me. Sometimes I have thoughts and moments of presumption when encountering certain people, but I recognize there's a lot of presumption and keep my mouth shut.

  • People just think they can say whatever they want to a mother.

I remember after having DD and few months later I met my sister at a mall, she has three daughters.  I took all the kids and we were sitting on a bench inside while my sister finished up some shopping in a store.  We were only sitting there for less than 10 minutes and you would not believe how many people stopped to comment on "all my girls"  and "wow, so many children"  or "do you plan on having more children?" and the best one "you really are trying for a boy aren't you?"

I was very surprised at how people really are clueless, thoughtless and just plain rude.

  • Really, lady? She needs a lesson in manners, obviously something her momma forgot to teach her. You just don't offend a pregnant woman, especially when she's trying to console her child. You were a LOT nicer than I would have been.

  • I'm preggers with baby #4 and the comments are endless. Wow! you're having another one? I reply, "Yes, I am because of ppl like you I need to help keep the world populated!" or better yet...you must work just to pay daycare! "Yes, I do and what business is it of yours." I've turned a lot more snarky than I used to be in the past when it comes to things like this. My favorite is though....You're really planning on having more????? WHY!!! I simply tell them "It's what makes ME & my family happy and we're not concerned about how it affects you and yours!"

Hang in there! I know it gets REALLY old, REALLY fast, but we're almost done.

  • wow. I think I would have freaked out on that woman. How completely inconsiderate. The comments start when your pg and they just never end. Why do people think they can just say whatever they want to mothers? I get asked if we will try again for a boy...um first of all I would like to get this baby out of me first and second of all it is none of your business what our future plans are. I'm with you, every baby is a blessing and something we should be thankful for everyday.
