Im just wondering for all you mommies that have older LOs...
do they have get over having a cold/stuffed up nose/being congested?
Ana has been in DC for two months and for one month and three weeks of that she has been basically sick. She got the flu the first week she was there and ever since then she is so congested and always has a runny nose and about every two weeks or so she spikes a fever.
I hate seeing her sick and she wakes up coughing all the time at night and "chokes" on her own mucas and Im just wondering how long this goes on for? Was there a point where your LO stopped getting sick.
I know its the DC bc she was never sick before that and one of the ladies at DC told me that all the kids in her class have stuffy noses and that it happens all the time...
thanks ladies.
Re: Do they ever get over the DC cold?
well, mine went in at 5 months and that first summer (9-12 months) I actually had them at home so I don't know if it typically goes away in the summer in the beginning but the next summer I kept them in and the runny nose & sickness disappeared during summer. After they turned 2 the sickness went WAY down. I know that probably doesnt' seem encouraging for you at this point but I would expect less sickness in summer and a lot less sickness after the first year or so in DC (depending on the season). Try to remember they're building immunity even though it is hard to see LO all stuffed up.
Our pedi told us to expect some form of sickness around every 3 weeks for the first year, and that includes the adults in the house frequently too (just to prepare you).
I agree with this. DD has been in daycare since 3 months old and has had maybe 6-7 colds. I've had a few colds as well.
At this point she hasn't had a cold or been sick in maybe 2 months, but I think this may have something to do with the season. I'm just glad she's building up her immune system.
