Baby Names

Too "Disney" of a sibset?

DS is named Sebastian, and one of my favorite girls' names is Aurora.  Would having two siblings with names of Disney characters be weird, or am I overthinking it?  Would people even notice?  It's not as if it's Sebastian and Ariel, at least...

Boo =(  Ah well, I guess there's always the middle name spot for Aurora.

I probably wouldn't notice off the bat but I'm not really a Disney movie person...

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

I wouldn't make the connection right off.  I don't think it's a problem.  You  might get a comment here and there but I don't think it's a big enough deal to not use it if you love it.  Sebastian and Ariel I would say a definite no to.

Thanks, I think so too!  That's why I'm so bummed.  I didn't even make the Disney connection myself at first, they were just two names I loved.

Grr, stupid movies having such well-named characters ;-)

  • I think they are both great names and the Disney thing doesn't matter.  If they were from the same movie ti would be an absolute no.
  • I think it's fine.  Two Disney princess names or two names from the same movie would be too much for me.  But Sebastian and Aurora are separate enough to work.
  • I would definitely think of Disney movies. One is fine but two kids makes it sound like you're a Disney fanatic. If you are, fine, but if you're not I'd use Aurora as a MN.

I'm not.  lol.  I definitely wouldn't want people to assume that I was, so I guess we'll be reserving Aurora as a MN possibility only.

  • I think they are fine, but I'm not a huge disney fan.  Aurora actually reminds me of terms of endearment instead of disney.

  • I would not have made the connection at all.

ETA: It's not like you're using Minnie and Mickey, Jasmine and Alladin, Simba and Nala! lol

  • I don't know... I prob would make the connection. Aurora is a very distinctive Disney name. I think it works outside the context of Disney, but Sebastian does push it a little far for me. But... it's not a total deal breaker to me. I mean, a lot of people won't make the connection. And I think they are both great names.

  • I don't think it's as pretty, but there is the variation of the name Aurora: Alora? It might be a made up name, but I know someone who named her daughter Alora (it might be spelled wrong though)...

  • I'm surprised so many people think it's too much.  I think it's fine.

  • I would notice, but it's not a huge deal since it's not Ariel. That I definitely wouldn't do.

I can never name a DD Luna for that very reason ;)

ITA. And I love both Sebastian and Aurora.

You just can't use a Disney name for a THIRD child.

I agree, I like both and Aurora was on my list, but is n.1 in Italy so now it's out

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  • I would have never noticed. I would have thought "wow those are two great names." Love Aurora, my DH vetoed it though.

  • I'm a HUGE Disney fan and I wouldn't notice or worry about it. Aurora isn't really know by that name so I would go with it. It's a beautiful name!!
  • FWIW, I have no idea who Aurora is.  And I've watched lots of Disney in my day.  I think maybe it was Sleeping Beauty??  But the point is, no, I would not have made this connection.  The names are NMS, but I wouldn't just them as "Disney."
  • I just really don't like the name Aurora.

This is the point I was going to make. A lot of people don't really think of Aurora as Aurora...they think of her as Sleeping Beauty.  So I don't think you'd have much of an issue.

I would notice, but I would think it was cute.  Sebastian and Ariel would be overkill, but Sebastian and Aurora wouldn't be IMHO.

  • What Disney character is Aurora???? Something in the last 10 years?

I don't think of Sebastian as a Disney name. He is kind of a minor character and that movie is pretty old.

    I think it's fine.
