I have fallen in love with the name Amelia Grey. I love the idea of a strong middle name with a feminine first name and surprisingly, my husband likes it as well. On mother's day I mentioned to my sister and her boyfriend of 4 years that we liked the middle name Grey and it turns out that is his middle name and his fathers and his grandfathers. Although they are not married and are not expecting, I don't think I could use Grey without causing some huge drama. Any ideas of strong names on the masculine side of things? Preferably 1 syllable? My distant second choice is Amelia Sloane. Thanks!
Re: Fell in love with a middle name I can't use
Wait, so you can't use Grey because your sisters boyfriend uses it as a middle name? Even IF they have a child together and IF it's a boy and use it as a middle name, why can't you both use it? It's a middle name, not a first.
What about Amelia Rae?

If it were me, I'd probably still use Grey. What if he and your sister break up at some point? You'll probably kick yourself for not using it. You said you talked to her, right? Did she make it seem like there would be major drama if you used the name? All that being said, other middle name ideas could include (although I'm not sure how "strong" they are--sorry:
Delaney
Opal
Rain
Ryann
I know it is just a middle name and they may break up or have 5 girls but my sister would be upset if I used it first so I am trying to put it out of my mind and find something I love equally or more. Rae is a good one, thanks!
Well, I love Gray and think you should still use it.

I say use Grey. It's a middle name, which means it's easy for other family members to still use it if they want to. I have been pondering giving our LO the same mn as my nephew (actually, it's very similar to Grey!). I share a mn with two stepsisters. And if a child was given my mn as a fn? It wouldn't feel weird at all since we would still go by different fn's.
ETA: Well, unless your sister will make your life miserable if you use it.
(Hate it when family members do that!). I like Joy, Pearl or Clare (sorry, never been a fan of the name Rae!).
I don't think it's a big deal. Has she TOLD you there is going to be drama? IF they ever have a child and IF they ever want to use the same mn it's not a big deal. On my dad's side, all the boy cousins have either the middle name James or Richard. It's kind of cool, James is after one of my dad's brothers and Richard is his father. It's something they all have in common. I know Grey wouldn't be "after" the bf but it would be a pretty cool little secret for two cousins to have
But I do agree that Rae is a great name

Yes, you might kick yourself for not using it, but you also might be glad you didn't use it (like if the bf and your sister break up nastily).
