Amber, I hear plastic bags work well too.

I think about letting V fall off the bed.  Maybe he will learn that playing around near the edge isn't a good idea.  I've gotta give him props for learning how to get off the couch safely by himself, but when he's in our bed he likes to try to catapult himself off.  Not cool at 5:30 AM.

PS: I won't actually let him fall off.  I just think about it.

  • I think that the silent cry, just before the scream is about to come out, makes for the cutest face ever... :-/

Bay has taken a few spills this week due to walking. When she does she begins to cry and it is silent for about 20 second before the scream comes out. And I LOVE that silent scream face!!

Okay.  Maybe that's more of a vent, but I've been running into it a lot lately!

    Good call!

For real though... as we were leaving this morning, I noticed C needed a big ol diaper change.  Well, I was running late, so I went ahead and went to mom's.  I dropped him off and told her that I thought he was stinkin.  Sorry, mom!

Ha, I love that picture, Amber!

Mine:  I've always wanted to be a SAHM.  We are really lucky and blessed that we can afford to do it.  And I do really enjoy it.  But it is harder and more lonely than I expected, and some days I feel like I'm not very good at it.

How's that for woe is me, Kimbo? Wink

  • I went to a conference yesterday and there was an hour and a half lunch and vendor browsing period.  I sat outside in the sun while I ate my lunch.  I decided that the vendor browsing wasn't worth leaving the sunshine!  I can't make purchasing decisions anyway and wasn't about to spend thousands of my own money to purchase large items for my classroom.  Even if there were great things to purchase, our district wouldn't buy them anyway due to our drastic budget cuts, layoffs, and budget freeze.  I plan to submit my professional development certificate for the whole day.

ETA: I wore sunscreen. :)  No sunburns for this "ginger!"

That's not really what I'm talking about.  I think it's fine to vent here in there. Heck, I do it too. It's when people constantly complain and either don't do anything about it or make it harder than they have to that bother me.

My grandpa always says to "work smarter, not harder."  I think a lot of people (in general) need to remember that.

  • I am still seriously side-eying DH's cousin.  He and his gf have a new baby, and they let his parents (my DH's aunt/uncle) bring the baby to Macy's bday party last weekend... without them.  The baby was 5 weeks old.  We are a 2-hour drive, one way, from them.  The baby's mom had to go back to work the following Monday.  I'm sorry, but there is no possible way I would send my 5 week old baby with my MIL/FIL, 2 hours away, to a house I've never been to, surrounded by an unknown number of strangers, for an entire day.  They left at 10 am and didn't get back until probably 6 pm.  I just can't imagine letting my baby go for an entire day, not knowing who the heck is holding him, letting him ride in a car for 4 hours, and knowing that I'm going back to work in 2 days!  Oh, and they didn't even have plans for the day.  DH's aunt said they "wanted some alone time."  Indifferent

Another one:  I just finished Fifty Shades of Grey after one day.  DH asked me what I was reading and I told him "just some mindless book."  He has no idea what it is, despite it being all over the news, and I left it at that.  The other 2 books in the series are arriving today, and I can't wait.  I have a baby shower to go to this weekend, and I would MUCH rather stay in my air conditioned house and read those stupid books than haul Macy to a baby shower where I won't know anyone.

I promise you it will get better as she gets older. So many fun things to do every day. I'm sure you are doing great! But I know what you mean, it is so hard and the constant guilt is killer.

Yep!  I have a cousin like that.  She puts ever single woe and piece of drama out there for everyone to see.  I hid her in my news feed because it got so old. lol

  • Mine is this. I have always been very anti-baby signing. I thought it was silly and it seemed to hinder some of my friends' kids' use of real speech. But DS all of the sudden started signing "more" because daycare taught it to him and it is the cutest damn thing. So now I'm a believer.

Kimbo, I couldn't agree with you more.  I've currently started to move away from a few of my friends who are this way, I just got tired of hearing it, esp since we are in a rough spot ourselves, but I choose to think about going forward rather than being miserable in the moment.

So this.  Especially these last few weeks.

My real FFFC: We were supposed to move last weekend, but the deal fell through (&@#$&@# sellers!!).  Our place is like 75% packed and just in general disarray.  I've been using this as an excuse for way too many poor parenting decisions.  Specifically, the tv has been on a lot this week.  I feel really guilty about this one.

Amber, I hear plastic bags work well too.

Speaking of plastic bags, I let Julia play with one while I was unloading the dishwasher and cleaning up the kitchen the other day. I would NEVER leave the room while she was playing with one, but she was amazingly absorbed with the bag instead of trying to climb up my leg and fussing the whole time.

  • After checking in on Ty a few times and trying to get him to go back to bed, I finally gave up and just let him 100% totally CIO.  I've been sick, DH is getting sick and we were at our wits ends.  We normally check after 5 minutes, then in intervals of 10 minutes (and never need to get that far), but last night we let him scream himself to sleep for 22 minutes.

I was listening for gagging and vomit though.

I almost learned this the hard way early on. I had Lexi in her chair, not strapped in. I turned around to run to the bathroom, but at the last second that little voice (Holy Spirit!) told me to turn around and go back to her. She lunged forward, the tray wasn't quite clicked in and it clattered to the floor, and I caught her with her head about 3 inches from the hardwood floor. She was about 5 months old. I always strap her in now!

  • On Saturday, Liam burst into tears, and cried for a good 10 minutes when my MIL snatched him away from me the minute we walked in the door. He'd never done that before, but he hadn't seen the in-laws in a month and is getting stranger anxiety. I was secretly pleased about this (not that I like my baby to cry, of course). MIL asked if he does this with my parents. I said "nope!" Granted, he sees my parents 3 days/week b/c they do daycare for us while I work. I'm sure if he hadn't seen them in a month, he might do the same, but I wasn't about to tell MIL that. She makes me feel like crap all the time, it's about time she felt like crap too.

Agree, and I think even less if they don't state what their problem is. Like those who are all "le sigh, life is so hard, I'm so stressed I can't just catch a break, blah blah blah," but they won't actually say what is wrong. They want people to guess. For all I know, it could be that you broke a nail, so I'm not going to feel sorry for you if you're not going to tell me what is wrong (and even then, I might not, unless there was a death in the family or something)

Join a mom's group! The one I joined has stuff going on 3-4, days a week. We have gone to 2 play groups through that this week and then have had 2 with one of the girls on here! It definitely takes the lonely away.

Yup I've lurked there.  I usually post on the 9 - 12 board but once DD's 1 I'll probably just post here,  no desire to be part of that, lol, but it is fun to read sometimes.
