If you are swaddle free..

How long did it take your LO's sleep to go back to normal?  I was getting a 6 hour stretch followed by 2 three hour stretches.  We swaddled one arm out for 3 nights and sleep was pretty normal.  Last night we did both arms free and we were up every 2 hours... just like the old days.  Is he just not ready or can I expect his sleep to go back to its old pattern soon?  What's your experience?

Re: If you are swaddle free..

  • my daughter let us know she was ready to be swaddle free by breaking out of the swaddler at night and fighting it when we put it on.  We stopped swaddling altogether at that point and had no interruptions in her sleeping.  I don't know if your son showed the same signs or not, but if not, you might want to wait until he shows more "readyness"

We were the same as PP. I had been swaddling DS b/c I was afraid he would startle himself awake with his flailing arms. He always tried to get his hands in his mouth at night, so my mom finally convinced me to unswaddle him one night, and he slept straight through with no issues. We finally ditched the swaddlers altogether a few weeks ago and now just go with sleep sacks. He'll sleep 7-8 hrs, then another 1-2 after a feeding.
  • Same as pp's-DS pretty much unswaddled himself Big Smile

  • Same for us. We decided to not swaddle and didn't have any sleep interruptions.

  • I stopped cold turkey and ds was a horrible sleeper for a couple of days. But I realized that its cause he wanted to sleep on his side, once on his side he speed moving and squirming and flailing his arms around and would go right to sleep! His sleep will go back he just has to get used to the feeling of being free and not startling himself!
