Wooden Rocking Chair?

Has anyone used a wooden rocking chair in their nursery?  We had already chosen a chair, then when we went to buy it, found out it was discontinued and nowhere to be found.  Now I am due in 3 weeks and have no chair.  My mom offered to let me have a family rocking chair that I like the look of, but I am worried about the comfort of the chair.  Anyone used one before?

Re: Wooden Rocking Chair?

  • I do.  I use the wooden rocking chair that was in my nursery when I was a baby.  I just added a blanket that drapes over the back and seat area as well as a small blanket on the right arm (because I tended to bump DS's head on this side but not on the left). It is completely comfortable for night time feedings and rocking him to sleep.  I also love how it looks and that it has a history.

  • We have a family heirloom we used...we got a cushion for it, and put a blanket over the back to help our backs.  We never fed DD in her room, because our house is 1 story and the couch was preferred even at 4am!

You don't need a fancy glider!

  • They work but aren't as comfortable.  What if you take it for now and then keep looking for a glider you like?

We also have the one that was in my nursery as a baby, and in my house when I was growing up.  It's very comfortable.  I did add a seat cushion (didn't need a back cushion), and put a quilt over the left arm.  We FFed, and I needed a little padding under my arm where Bean's noggin went while he ate.

    I'd never use another chair.

  • Thanks everyone!  I think we are going to go with it.
