  A little bit of acid will help preserve them longer, too much

  might kill them.  You could always add a little sugar to the

  water to help counteract the acid; they'll absorb the sugar

  as food so the acid will only work as preservative.

  And, just cause nature's awesome, how much is too much 

  acid or sugar totally depends on the sort of flower
