On May 9th, DH and I arrived at the hospital at 5am for my scheduled induction. They got us up to our room and had me hooked up to the IV and got fluids started. The nurse checked me about 6:30 and said I was at a 3, which I had just been at a 2 at my previous appointment which was 2 days before that. So I was thankful I had progressed a little more on my own and wasn't starting from nothing. They got the pitocin started right after she checked me and it took about an hour before I started feeling any noticeable or painful contractions. But, when they started, they came on with a vengance. I hadn't had any noticeable contractions during my pregnancy so I wasn't sure what to really expect. After a few hours, it got increasingly difficult to talk and I just had to breathe and focus as much as I could during the contractions. I tried as long as I could to go without the epi, but I'm sort of a wuss and couldn't handle the pain anymore. The doc came in and hooked me up to the epi and I was finally able to relax and get a little rest. I wasn't feeling very well when I was on the epi, and come to find out my blood pressure kept dropping. This really freaked out my family, but luckily it started to go up within a few hours after I got more rest. My OB came in a checked me a few times, and at around 3 pm I was only at a 5. The epi had really slowed everything down. She also told me that the baby's head was started to get cone shaped. The contractions were pushing him down the birth canal, but he couldnt go anywhere because I wasnt dilating. So she let me know that if I didnt progress within a few hours, they would most likely have to do a c-section. This really stressed me out. I didnt want to have to do that, but then again, I wanted what was best for my little man. She came back around 4:00 and I had progressed to a 7. I guess my cervix just needed a little scare to get going lol. 30 minutes later I was fully dilated and she told me that on my next contraction we were going to start pushing. I couldnt believe it was already time!! With the epi, I couldn't really feel when to push, so the doc ended up turning it off. And boy was I not ready for the pain and the pressure. I still couldnt get a hang of the pushing so a nurse finally came in with a sheet and told me to hold one end as she grabbed the other. We started to play tug of war to see if this would help get me pushing where I needed to. It helped a little at first, but then after almost 2 hours of pushing, and a few other positions, a nurse came in and grabbed the sheet and said " Look, this is how you are going to do it. We aren't having a c-section and you are going to get this little guy out right now!" I pulled as hard as I could and within 2 minutes, his head was out. It was pretty painful and they told me to wait a second while they got finished getting everything set up. They finally I was able to push again and when he came out, I felt this amazing relief and then an overwhelming amount of emotion. I didnt even realize that she had to perform a level 2 episiotomy and was stiching me up because I finally got to see my little boy!! Easton was born at 6:12pm after about 2 hours of pushing and 13 total hours of labor.
I've never been so much in love!
Congrats to those of you that have had your LO's and good luck to those who are still waiting for their arrivals!!
