8 pd baby per growth u/s today!

ugh!  I am 36 weeks and one day, and had my growth u/s today.  my dc was 10 pds 1 oz, so my obgyn wanted me to have this growth u/s and if new baby is looking big we have to talk about induction.  Well, baby is 8 pds and on track to be another 10 pounder at term (and dc was 10 pds 1 oz at 41.5 weeks... dr today told me that this baby is on track to be 10 pds at term!)  dr thinks they may induce at 38 or 39 weeks, but I will talk with my dr next week for a final decision.

I really don't want to induce, but I also don't want to deliver another 10 pder (it was really rough on me).  So I called dh and told him he better come home tonight in an amorous mood bc we are going to have sex every single day from now on, no matter how tired we are!   I guess I should start looking into this evening primrose oil thing, too.

Come on baby!

    Come on baby!

Sex always worked for us when my body was getting ready, it threw me into labor. Also there is a massage therpist near us that does reflexology inductions and btwn that and sex I had the baby within 24 hrs.

I can tell you that your first baby makes way for the second. With DS i pushed for 2 hours, had an episiotomy and vaccuum delivery.

DD came out in 5 pushes, no tears or cuts, no interventions. It was so easy compared to DS.

Your body knows what its doing now, and remembers. Go with your gut.

  • Mine was a 10 pounder too and was a c section.  It's another RCS for me since one is looking to be about 10lbs at 40 weeks.  They are taking her at 39.

That is very true- dc slept through the night for the first time at about 5 weeks.  it was awesome.  so there are definitely benefits.  The delivery was rough for me though.  everyone says since I have done it before I should be fine, but that was 8 years ago!  We used forceps, I had a huge tear and had to stay in the hospital an extra day. I hope PPer is right that second time should be easier... I have to have confidence!

Please do have confidence. You have to think of the muscles and your bones and how they have done this before. Plus every baby is different and this one may be bigger but the head maybe smaller and shoulders may fit easier.

    I think you'll do great ;)

Not to mention that U/S measurements of weight are often incorrect. I've heard of a number of babies who measured significantly more on the U/S than when they were born - it's why a lot of practitioners don't do them after the 20 week.

very true. I had a friend who went in and the said her baby was 9 or more lbs and she was only 7 lbs. Very very off at times. But since the PP has a history of a large baby, I would think the baby more than likely will be 9-10 lbs.

  • I'm here with a baby measuring in the 90th percentile and 2 weeks ahead at my growth ultrasounds.  My last one was 8 lbs 8 1/2 ozs. and a girl, so with this one being a boy they say he is on track to being a "big" baby.

  • Also my acupuncturist says they can do acu-induction kind of stuff, if you are into that kind of thing.  Any certified herbalist/acupuncturist should be able to give you good info on the primrose oil, too.

  • I'm hoping for your sake that the growth scan was "off." I hope all goes well & you get it figured out. GL!
