omg.
I have shared on here before about how my mom died of breast cancer in her thirties. Because of this and because she was of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, I have always been told I was super high risk for having the BRCA1 gene mutation (the "breast cancer gene"). I've had genetic counseling, yearly mammograms and MRI's since I was 26, etc. But I never actually got around to having the blood test done until last week.
I just got the results and they were NEGATIVE.
I can't even describe how I feel right now. I mean, I know there's no gaurantee that I won't get breast cancer someday, but holy ***, the risk is so much lower and now I don't have to be done having babies by 35 and I can maybe stop writing letters to Betsy under the assumption that I won't be around to watch her grow up and I could go on and on.
Sorry, just had to share.
Re: I just got amazing news.
I am so happy for you. I can't even imagine the relief you must feel right now.
ETA: I think you should still write the letters to Betsy. I think it is beautiful that you do that and I am positive she will treasure them.
::hugs::
My mom was BRCA 1 & 2 positive (died at 34), and I am not, so I know how you feel, and I know it's an amazing feeling. I am so happy for you.
This is the best news I've heard in quite awhile.
((HUGS))
I'm so sorry for your loss, Annie. That's wonderful that you're negative!

I'll hold you in my heart until I hold you in heaven.
Thanks, y'all. I am in total shock because it never occured to me that I wouldn't test positive. I feel like someone has given me a gift I never even expected.
<------ feeling super cheesy right now.
that has to be a huge weight off your shoulders, good news.
Amazing indeed, I'm very happy for you!
This is great news! I am so happy for you.
Scout, I'm so happy for you! That is seriously awesome news. I know that was a huge burden for you. Yay!
Are you going to get the test done on Betsy? Does she have to be a certain age first?
Haven't we discussed that before? I thought you were one of the ones helping me last year when I wanted to celebrate Hannukah and had no idea what to do (I'm a practising Methodist).
I will encourage her to get tested. I need to do more research, but I imagine her risk of being positive is considerably lessened if I'm negative.
