teeth grinding??

DS just cut his first upper tooth (already had the front 2 bottom ones) and no sooner did that thing poke through than he started grinding his teeth!!  Aside from the sound being like nails on a chalkboard for DH and I, I'm a little concerned he'll damage his teeth.  Obviously the poor kid has no clue what "don't grind your teeth" means, so I don't think there is a way to stop it, but any one else's kid do this and stop after the tooth was fully through?

2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

Re: teeth grinding??

  • They'll do it because its a new sound/sensation

Like most things they'll lose interest in a while.

The best course of action is to ignore it, if they see it draws a reaction they'll be more inclined to do it.

Both of mine did it right after they got a top and bottom in. Neither of them do it anymore.

  • DD does this. I worry about it damaging her teeth too.. She has two on top and one on bottom and the other bottom one is just now poking through.

  • Yeah, DD did this a ton when her top teeth first came in. After a few weeks, she lost interest, thank goodness! She hasn't done it in quite awhile, so I am sure your DS will lose interest soon too.
  • My LO was doing this alot when his teeth first came in.  He's now got 7 and they've been in a while now and he does it only rarely now.  Last time he did it was when tooth #7 popped through.  I try to distract him with something when he starts doing it b/c I can't stand to listen to it.  Gives me the shivers.

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm hoping it is just a phase with DS too.

DD did this for awhile--a month, maybe--but ten lost interest in it, praise the Lord. It was seriousky awful to listen to, and I could hear it from the next room!
