Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Back from the allergist...

The allergist confirmed that Zachary has severe allergies to nuts and milk :(  The good news is that he is not allergic to soy, so we can try some tofu and soy cheese.

The doctor said that I'm going to have to get really comfortable with reading every single food label for Zachary's meals.  We have an adrenaline shot for him if he is exposed to nuts, and when he's over 20 lbs we'll start carrying an epipen.

Not fun!

  • That stinks, but at least you know now.  My cousin is highly allergic to nuts, and it was alot at first, but now it's gotten to be second nature.  May I ask what his symptoms have been that made you suspect allergies?

He broke out in hives after I fed him some of the Gerber Wagon Wheel snacks - they were the carrot-cheese flavor.  There are no nuts in them, but the doctor said that it was kind of a blessing in disguise that he reacted because it prompted the testing in which the peanut allergy turned up.

  • That's very interesting!  There's a girl on my local board that just found out her DS also has a nut allergy after giving her a tiny bit of peanut butter (she's over a year old).  I'm always interested to hear how people find out, I feel like it gives me a better idea of what to look for :)

Good luck with everything, I'm sure you have alot of research to do!

  • Glad they could confirm the allergies for you! It's so nice to know what they're allergic to.  And, that's good he's not allergic to soy!  There's soy in EVERYTHING!!  We found out through the blood test when DS was about 6 months old that he was highly allergic to eggs, nuts, dog dander, milk AND soy.

    Good luck with it!!

  • Oh no!  Sorry to hear that.  I hope he outgrows it someday!
